“bady managed and dodgy”

Eastnor House

1 of 5 stars
Michigan
Jul 26, 2007

In general this place is not welcoming, not properly overseen, and a bit dodgy in general.

From the beginning this was not a good experience. The owner was never around and even difficult to find during the morning and day. What little interaction I had with him was not pleasant. The phone did not work in the room and there was no attempt to mediate the situation.

Worse yet, a group of loud drunken men staying at the place kept me up from 3:30am to 5:30 am in the morning drinking, talking loudly, and knocking on all the doors in the place. When I complained it the morning the owner's only response was that he didn't hear a thing and that I should have called him if it bothered me (--hard to do when the phone does not work). There is no way he could have been on the premises and not heard that group.

The room was cramped and not super clean but passable, but crammed with too much stuff, including all kinds of food one could "buy" -- kinda like a dusty, poor man's mini bar.

I was visiting to attend a conference in town and another person there for the same conference stayed there as well and also had bad experiences, among them having to wait outside ringing the bell to be let in and having to pay 15 quid a night for broken baby bed in the room for her child and having to argue to get even that after requesting it when making the reservation and being assured it was no problem.

Having read the previous reviews only after I had already booked this hotel, I entered in trepidation. Apparently the owners have gotten the message. It was a wonderful experience. I was freely upgraded to a larger room with fresh flowers. They provided helpful tips about exploring the city. I enjoyed a delicious breakfast with numerous choices. In short, give it a try. I think the owners have taken the prior criticisms to heart.

“Another Stratford Rip Off”

Eastnor House

Stratford on Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace and a wonderful monument to his life and work, may be a beacon in the British tourist itinerary, but getting half decent accommodation at a half decent price is impossible. Once again disppointment is the name of the game. Eastnor House is tired, cluttered, airless and mean. For £90 a night you get a room that is desperate for a face lift and a breakfast that offers many choices but not a full English. Moreover it is pretty hard to navigate the dining room as there is too much furniture and too many folk queueing to get in as there aren't enough tables for all the guests.

More seriously, gaining entry to the hotel was problematic. There seems to be an issue with getting the door answered despite repeated bell ringing and phoning. Eventually a call to the back door yeilded results.

“Eastnor House Hotel”

Eastnor House

We stayed at Eastnor House Hotel for two nights and can recommend it as a pleasant place to be based whilst visiting Stratford-upon-Avon. It is very conveniently located, being less than a ten minute walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Our room was very clean and well furnished, and although the bathroom was very small and not new, it was clean with nice towels. Breakfast is a help yourself affair, (bacon, sausage, scrambled egg and baked beans kept hot) and was ample. I would certainly stay here again.

“hated the place”

I have just recently returned from the Eastnor hotel with my family. We had 2 rooms booked, numbers 8 & 9. I could not really faulty the rooms as they were extremely large and fairly clean. When we first arrived I was surprised to find a mini bar in the room as you only usually find these in the larger hotels but it turned out that as the bar never opened while we were there this was the only way you could ever get a drink. On the first day I did complain that the bar was not open and was told that they were much to busy doing other things. Also, on the website they advertise the "beer garden" at the back which was abosolutely disgusting and never opened. The "lavish breakfast" was terrible. On the first day we could help ourselves to mouldy bread, cold eggs, bacon and sausage. The fruit looked like it had been there for days. Once we reached the weekend the quality did get slightly better but the food was never really warm and you were also made the feel very uncomfortable as your plates were taken away just as you had taken your last mouthful, the owner was hovering all the time. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed and and I would certainly not recommend it to anyone.
