“Great facilities”

Village Hotel & Leisure Club Coventry

4 of 5 stars
Preston, lancs
May 8, 2008

Village Hotel Coventry located at the end of a business park. Excellent gym, swimming, sauna, steam room much like you'd expect at a purpose built gym facility.
Good beauty rooms and treatments.
There's no much locally and you'd need a car or taxi to explore further or visit resturants.
Food in hotel good.
Rooms modern and clean with plasma TV's.
ask for a room away from bar or function rooms as it can get noisy.
Stayed on business and weekend dinner deal which was good value.

“Good value for money”

I disagree with most of the other reviews given about this hotel. Me and my partner and toddler stayed here the night before we went on holiday at the end of March as we were flying from Birmingham. We found our room to be lovely and modern, very clean. The hotel reception staff were quite young and a bit slow but you don't stay with them you stay in your room! The hotel bar/restaurant served lovely food (when it eventually came) but we were unlucky enough to go in when a football match was on so it was very noisy and loud. The breakfast in the morning was very nice though and I think how much it cost for bed and breakfast was a reasonable fee. The walls are very thin - as at about 3 am in the morning a drunken couple came back to their room next door and proceeded to have sex which was quite loud and not very nice to listen to! But other than that I would recommend this hotel and I would stay in it again.

“Hotel ok, but avoid the restaurant at all costs!”

The hotel facilities are excellent and there are plenty of child-friendly areas to lounge in and enjoy a drink etc. The room itself was ok, although the mugs on the tea tray had not been washed and the bathroom floor was grubby. The pool is great and there's a lovely beauty treatment area on the ground floor and a very modern gym if you're that way inclined. I was treated really badly in the restaurant area - I dined alone and was completely ignored by the staff while families and couples all around me were getting their food I sat there without even a drink... when I complained the manager was extremely rude to me and didn't seem to care when I left 10 minutes later without ordering. I ate in the pub area instead and had a very nice meal - the staff in there seemed happier and less intimidating. I would stay here again on a room only basis if there was nothing else in the area available.

“Not a nice place to stay.”

Village Hotel & Leisure Club Coventry

Feb 13, 2008

I stayed at this hotel for business twice. The first visit a year earlier was not bad. This visit was not a good experience. I checked in and was told I was given an upgraded room.

If the room I was given was an upgrade I am afraid to see what a regular room is. The room was very worn out, at the very back of the parking lot. I believe it was in the orignal section of the hotel. The towels were like sand paper, the room smelt of smoke (even though I was told I was given an non-smoking room). The air conditioner did not work and the room was very small and dingy. The breakfast was also quite bad and on top of that I was charged somebody else's bar tab which I had to argue about to have it removed from my bill.

“Very average hotel”

Like many modern, middle of the road hotels, this place lacks character, but the rooms are fine and the fact that it's also a leisure club means that the leisure facilities are pretty good.

However, both the restaurant and bar on the ground floor are used for functions, and with karaoke being belted out and people gathering outside to smoke, this is not exactly a place for a peaceful getaway. I actually had to move room twice, firstly because the window was broken and wouldn't close, and secondly because they put me immediately above the karaoke racket. To be fair though, a very helpful and sympathetic woman on the front desk was extremely apologetic and it wasn't a major problem. Not sure this would have been the case if all rooms had been full though.

So if you can get a quiet room, and you're not looking for anything too special, this hotel does the job.
