Lovely place to stay, large rooms, clean and great food. I can't say enough about the friendly people, especially in the local that goes with the hotel, they're chatty and can't do enough for you! The hotel staff were great, we were a group of 6 of mixed ages from 11 to pensioners and we were all well catered for.The hotel is ideally situated just a 5 minute walk over the bridge to the city centre, there's plenty of shopping and bars, food is good and cheap, it's also nicely situated for the railway station and you can get to Belfast in 2 hrs. The only downside was the noise from the smoking area at the rear of the bar, but that was just one night and if you can't beat them join them, they are very welcoming!!

Stayed at the Iona Inn, Spencer Road, Derry for 3 nights. From the moment we arrived the manager and staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Must say the regulars to the inn were as well.
The accommodation was spacious and clean, the breakfasts were excellent. Yes you do experince some noise from the road but that is to be expected considering that the inn is on a busy road, but everywhere in Derry is within walking distance of the Iona Inn.
Fantastic value for money we would certainly stay at the Iona Inn again.

“The best B&B ever!”

Visited the Iona about three years ago but is probably one of the best places I've stayed in ever value wise worldwide. After hours of searching for somewhere to stay that looked decent and with an Irish look to it (as opposed to British) sad but true to any naive southener who decides to wander around N.Ireland). Walked in to the bar unannounced and asked if any rooms were available. Considering I'm young, it was about 10 pm and with a Wicklow accent, I was given a deep suspicious look, which only lightened when I said I was with my middle aged Mother. After that it was great and enjoyable stay with the staff falling over themselves to be helpful and to chat, something that was reflected in all of Derry in my expierence; and a far cry from where I'm from. The pub does have a local feel to it, with the staring when you come in the door, but it quickly subsided and we began to feel like the natives. Regarding one of the reviews above I began chatting to some other guests at breakfast who were English and they had no problems with their stay/welcome. But I know where the reviewer is coming from, driving around NI in my southern registered car especially for the unitiated can, at the beginning be a intimidating affair. But Derry is great! and so is the Iona!

“Decent Little B&B”

Iona Inn

There wasn't a lot wrong with the Iona Inn, the staff were lovely, the food was great, and the room was huge for the money.

The two main things to mention are to take ear plugs, we were on the front of the B&B and got a lot of road noise, my ear plugs meant I slept straight through not only that, but kicking out time from the Kareoke downstairs, my travelling companion was not so lucky. The other thing is that this B&B has a pub attached to it, run by the same people. Generally we were fine drinking in there, but it did feel very much like a locals pub, and we did get started on by an Irish guy looking for a fight who picked us because of our English accents. So be careful.

A group of us stayed in the Iona last November for the Irish Darts Festival. The owners were the most friendliest people we have ever met.
They accomodated us to the point that they even gave up their own bedrom. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The guest house was clean and the meals were plenty. We have booked to stay there again this year. we would definately recommend the Iona to anyone
