We've stayed here so many times I can't remember exactly how many but this time was surely the best and also the saddest. We enjoyed all the new amenities including our sumptuous new bathroom and the entrance is certainly less slippery in the inclement weather we are used to experiencing when in St Andrews in December!
The family and staff were as always very welcoming and helpful, and despite the stringent smoking rules we couldn't have asked for a more comfortable stay with good food and great company.
The Hogmanay party was as ever an enormous success not just because of a brilliant ceilidh band who have played for the past 5 years I think but because of the wonderful family atmosphere the hotel holds. We know Justin and Louise and ofcourse their lovely children well (having watched them grow up from todlers to fine and handsome waiters) but this year was their last as they are moving on to pastures new and handing over to a modern hotel chain. Assuring us things will only get better, which is something I find hard to believe as we always felt not only like VIPs but as family almost. Having spoken to many other guests who have also been coming for years at this time of the year, all were saddened to learn of their departure but wish them well in whatever they decide to do. Congratulations to Storm for his speech from the heart about his parents, a sentiment all the staff and many guests seemed to share.
The new owners have a lot to live up to after such a successful family team, will they be willing to golf with us like Justin, dance with us like Louise or fetch and carry for our every whim like Josh? I doubt it but let's keep an open mind we'll definitely be back to see.
