Golfers - making the pilgrimage to St. Andrews - with your family - to "challenge" the Old Course? Then THIS is where you want to stay! PERFECT location and EXCELLENT accomodations. The staff were incredibly polite, helpful and supportive - especially "Mike", their roving Goodwill Ambassador. Great stories and a great guy... there's a convenient golf bag locker near the front door, and walking down the short hill to the R&A clubhouse, with your spikes on and bag slung across your back, viewing the sweeping coastline and links before you, well... it just doesn't get any better than that. The rooms are very nice (we stayed in the Harry Vardon suite, with an expansive bay window view of the sea - awesome!), the restaurant's menu highly commendable and the bar is a perfect place to sample single malts and tell war stories. Even better, it's perfectly situated for the rest of the family to stroll into town, check out the cathedral and castle ruins and just soak up the remarkable ambience of the place. I'd read quotes from famous pros like Jack and Player and others who said St. Andrews is perhaps the most delightful town in all of Scotland - and I'd have to agree. Believe me - we covered another 1500 miles exploring ALL of Scotland after our visit, and that comment STILL holds true! Anyway, It's just a great place with great staff and fabulous food. If I'm fortunate enough to ever get back there, that's the first booking I make (right after I get a tee time, of course). Cheers!
