“Loved this cosy weekend hideaway.”

We booked this hotel at short notice not knowing the town very well. We were more than pleasantly surprised by the location and charm of the georgian building with a lot of original features still intact. Friendly service and fantastic breakfasts. Our room was not the biggest we have stayed in but was more than adequate, I guess thats because its an old listed building. We would be happy to recommend it and will certainly stay again.

“Overpriced guest house”

Unfortunately this hotel is similar to many St Andrews hotels, namely overpriced. Such was the demand for hotel rooms for the weekend in question, we were unable to book anywhere else. The Albany is essentally a guest house and a relatively poor one at that. Our room was reasonably spacious, but the standard of decor was poor. Breakfast was quite good. We paid £130 for the room, which is very poor value.

“An Overpriced Disgrace.”

I recently visited St Andrews for a friend's wedding. Due to the high number of weddings taking place that weekend, the start of the 'tourist' golf season and an R&A dinner, hotel rooms were in short supply. After eleven calls resulting in "sorry we are full", I reserved a room for myself and my girlfriend at the Albany Hotel somewhat reluctantly, bearing in mind the £130 per night price tag for a double room.... On checking in, we somewhat surprised that the tired interior didn't match the pictures of the residents lounge (tiny) on the website. Furthermore, rather than being welcomed at check in, we were met with barked orders (breakfast on a Sunday 07:15 to 09:15 and check out was 10:30!!!) and room cleaning blocking the landings. The bedroom was old and tired, with a tiny double bed and an aged mattress. It was also cold and damp, despite the warm day outside. The bathroom was unsuitable for those over 180cm, had a peeling lino floor, an electric towel rail come radiator that wasn't even attached to the floor and a shower that dripped. Forget decent toiletries, fluffy towels and bathrobes. In a small regional town one expects a decent room, a good level of service and a tasty breakfast for £130.00 per night. This hotel is a glorified B&B of the old school variety (i.e. 'hot and cold running water') only qualifying as a hotel I imagine by virtue of its trouser press and hair dryer. I was thoroughly unimpressed and disappointed.

“Friendly but overpriced small hotel verging on a B&B”

Albany Hotel

Whilst the welcome was friendly and the service good, this was a disappointing experience. The hotel is well situated but has no parking and was unable to give clear information as to where to obtain vouchers. (Why not have a book of them to sell to guests as needed?)

The bedroom was very small with inadequate space to keep our suitcase open without risk of tripping. The shower issued very limited water, and the basin was minature.

The small lounge was very pleasant with a gas fired open fire although it was closed on our return from a restaurant at 10.45pm. Check out is 10.30am which is exceptionally early particularly on a Sunday.

All of this cost a discounted price of £90 which by any standards is high and we felt that it was not justified.

“Slept in an overpriced shoebox”

We stayed one night at the Albany Hotel at the end of August. The standard room cost us 90 pounds and was tiny. and poorly furnished.
Starting with the door which stuck, and had to be banged closed, then the tiny bathroom, and climbing around the foot of the bed to reach the otherside and hitting one's head on the TV, it was very unsatisfactory.
To add to our discomfort the other rooms adjacent to ours seemed to have the same problem with closing their doors and our sleep was disturbed every time other guests wacked their doors open or shut, both late at night and very early in the morning when we presume golfers were setting forth.
