“Simply the Best”

The White Lodge

Jan 20, 2008

I can't imagine a better place in St Andrews.
My wife and I stayed for 4 nights (and 4 days of golf). We are not seasoned B&B's, so we selected the Apartment to have privacy. It was excellent from the convenience, accommodations, hospitality and warmth.
Shelia and Paul were simply the best and we look forward to returning soon.

“Where can it possibly get better than at the White Lodge?”

It was my first time in St Andrews and I needed to be close to the University where I was going to spend the next 11 days. I was also looking for a place near downtown with some spirit and warm atmosphere as I was traveling alone and was hoping to meet hosts with whom I could exchange from time to time.

When I came across the website of the White Lodge, I immediately knew this was exactly the perfect place I was looking for. The decoration of the house and rooms, and care for the smallest detail left me with a very good impression. The hosts were also experienced people even if the B&B had just opened, as they had hosted a guest houses for many years. I learned later that they had actually won the price of the nicest living space in Scotland for that guest house...

The hospitality I experienced with Sheila and Paul, and the warmth of the house was beyond anything I could ever imagined. Not only was everything 'physically' perfect, but my hosts were the kindest people, you know the type of people that you meet only rarely during a lifetime. They loved what they are doing, and you could feel every moment that you and your comfort were very important to them. They offered me very kindly many rides in town and even suppers with them. They were even looking for me on the road on a Saturday night, knowing it was pouring rain and that I was probably trying to get back 'home'. Yes, 'home', that what it really felt like.

Regarding the physical environment, I experienced staying in two of the three rooms. The Neuk was a perfect 'corner' (meaning of Neuk is Scotish), a bright, cosy and functional room. But I simply felt in love with the Suite, simply too great to be true. The breakfasts were also amazing with buttered mushrooms, peameal, oven-baked tomatoes, eggs, fruits, and a variety of other things. They also cared for changing the menu for those of us who stayed longer.

Simply a great experience that I would recommend to anyone!

“Never experienced hospitality”

The White Lodge

Jun 17, 2007

Boston, Massachusetts

My fiancé and I stayed for 6 nights in The White Lodge in St Andrews. This B&B had just opened 3 weeks before our arrival.

Our hosts, Sheila and Paul, were the warmest hosts we have ever encountered. Sheila, who has been an interior designer, decorated the White Lodge in warm colors, creating a relaxing but also modern atmosphere. We stayed in a unique room, which was actually a suite with a private entrance. Downstairs, there was a kitchen and a living room; upstairs the bedroom and a beautiful and very functional bathroom.

The key feature of the White Lodge is the hospitality of the hosts. We had never ever experienced such hospitality! Their passion for being good hosts became immediately apparent. Right after we arrived, Sheila offered us a drive to our appointment. We found this extremely kind. Also, we really enjoyed talking with them about the area. Moreover, on the day of our arrival, they installed wireless internet because we had enquired about possible Internet access. To our great surprise, they invited us for a dinner with them on our last evening. This was surely one of the highlights of our stay. We felt so sad when we had to say goodbye.

The breakfast with candlelights (!) was a fantastic way to start our day. Besides a banquet, Sheila prepared delicious eggs with mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon, and sausages. One day she had bought smoked salmon to treat us!

The B&B is only a short walk to the city centre of St Andrews. (about 10 min).

The White Lodge had not yet been graded when we were there. It seemed however very likely that they will receive the highest grade (5 stars) as everything was so perfect.

During and after our stay we just could not stop talking to other people about the White Lodge. We definitely recommend this B&B!!
