It was my first time in St Andrews and I needed to be close to the University where I was going to spend the next 11 days. I was also looking for a place near downtown with some spirit and warm atmosphere as I was traveling alone and was hoping to meet hosts with whom I could exchange from time to time.
When I came across the website of the White Lodge, I immediately knew this was exactly the perfect place I was looking for. The decoration of the house and rooms, and care for the smallest detail left me with a very good impression. The hosts were also experienced people even if the B&B had just opened, as they had hosted a guest houses for many years. I learned later that they had actually won the price of the nicest living space in Scotland for that guest house...
The hospitality I experienced with Sheila and Paul, and the warmth of the house was beyond anything I could ever imagined. Not only was everything 'physically' perfect, but my hosts were the kindest people, you know the type of people that you meet only rarely during a lifetime. They loved what they are doing, and you could feel every moment that you and your comfort were very important to them. They offered me very kindly many rides in town and even suppers with them. They were even looking for me on the road on a Saturday night, knowing it was pouring rain and that I was probably trying to get back 'home'. Yes, 'home', that what it really felt like.
Regarding the physical environment, I experienced staying in two of the three rooms. The Neuk was a perfect 'corner' (meaning of Neuk is Scotish), a bright, cosy and functional room. But I simply felt in love with the Suite, simply too great to be true. The breakfasts were also amazing with buttered mushrooms, peameal, oven-baked tomatoes, eggs, fruits, and a variety of other things. They also cared for changing the menu for those of us who stayed longer.
Simply a great experience that I would recommend to anyone!
