We enjoyed our 2 nights with Craig and Julie Niven and their new baby, who were delightful hosts who just opened their guesthouse in April 2007. Julie was so sweet to cook my husband a fried-egg sandwich to take with him to the golf course VERY early in the morning to get in line for a tee time. They were both very friendly and sweet.
The rooms were decorated in contemporary style, with very nice linens. The rooms are small, and our bathroom had the world's tiniest sink! We had 2 rooms on the back of the house, which overlooked a lovely little backyard with a goldfish pond. We had a nice Scottish breakfast each morning in their contemporary breakfast room.
The location is in a residential section of the city, quiet, not far by car, 10 minute walk to downtown (NOT walking distance if carrying golf clubs!!! since the walk home would be all uphill). Parking is on the street in front of the house and plentiful (which could be a problem in other St Andrews locations).
While in St. Andrews, don't miss the Botanical Gardens ... we happened on it by chance, just following a sign to kill a few hours while husband was golfing... and it was WONDERFUL! Very inexpensive admission, we had the place almost to ourselves and wandered thru the several outdoor gardens and greenhouses, snapping hundreds of pictures of a surprising diversity and abundance of plants and flowers.
