“Modern boutique hotel”

Marks Hotel

Jul 16, 2008

We stayed at the Mark Hotel for three nights in June and loved it. The hotel is clean modern and the staff were really pleasant. A reasonably priced very central hotel near all the sights and very close to the shopping areas. The willow cafe on Sauchiehall street was a bit of a disappointment and very expensive nothing like I had expected, it was above a jewellery shop Buchanon Street looked better but not the original. The hop on hop off bus is brilliant to see all the sites and the kelvingrove museum was superb. It is worth a look in the city chambers just to look at the marble staircase. We ahd a great time even though it rained constantly!!!

“Ok but not like the website”

Marks Hotel

I was disappointed by this place. The website makes it look magnificent but the reality is that the hotel has been given a less than complete refurb. The main reception, bar and restaurant have been fully modernised and look great but when you get behind the front of the hotel its disappointing. The corridors didn't appear to have been fully refurbished and nor had our room. In particular the furniture in the room was clearly old hotel furniture from before the refurb. We aren't talking classic antiques here - rather the sort of tired furniture you'd expect to see in a hotel in need of doing up. Old wallpaper had simply been painted over and the bathroom didn't appear to have had much done to it at all. In fact the shower curtain was mouldy. That said that half of the room that had been completely refurbished was very nice indeed.

The breakfast was ok and I've no complaints about the staff. The hotel is close to the main shopping area and is handy for a bus into the west end but the area immediately surrounding the hotel is a little faded and seems to be in the process of being regenerated.

Had I realised that this wasn't the special modern chic hotel the website seemed to promise I would have splashed out a bit more on somewhere that was. As it is I have come away from my two night stay feeling that this isn't a bad hotel and that it is pretty good value for money but that I have been slightly mislead by a website that seemingly only tells half the story.

“Great Central Hotel”

Marks Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Dorset, UK
Jul 11, 2008

Stayed one night at the Marks Hotel, on a weekend break from Bournemouth. Very friendly welcoming. We arrived in the City at 9:00am and asked whether we could leave our bag and check in later, but we were allowed to check in there and then, which was a bonus. The hotel is ideal for the shops, train/bus station, restaurants and bars. The rooms have a strange decor, unfortunately our room was very warm and you couldnt open the window wide, but the main upside it was quiet. Flat screen TV and shower gel in bathroom, tea/coffee facilities. Great breakfast, hot or cold, very friendly/helpful waiting staff. Definately would stay again and recommend.

“Mostly enjoyed the Marks Hotel.”

Marks Hotel

Jul 5, 2008

What I liked:

A lot of thought put into the design of the hotel and the rooms, felt like a nice little boutique hotel.

The breakfast was actually pretty delicious, with fresh fruits, pastries, cheese, yogurts etc. Also, an a la carte menu for those who prefer it.

The staff were accomodating in allowing us to check in early, and making all transactions efficient.

Location is fantastic. Right in the heart of Glasgow, with easy access to train station, but station and all the amenities of the city centre. Can't beat the location.

What I disliked:

Our room smelled like amonia/urine. Not sure which, but it definitely distracted from the funkiness of the room.
