“well situated - ideal for children”

Ideally situated, not too far from town centre(a good stretch of the legs), and good bus service to O Connell Street until very late at night. Quiet leafy suburb, good for the kids. Large breakfast, and lots of choice. We were stuffed every day! Rooms were comfortable and clean, with luxurious furnishings, a little bit small though. Children loved the internet access, video collection. We loved the shower! Dublin is very busy, but we felt safe there, even quite late at night. Be warned though, very expensive!! Daughter was in heaven in Clery's department store, and son loved the multi screen cinema. Found a nice beach a few miles out at Portrane, and a large shopping centre near Swords. Get directions from port to hotel before you leave home, we got hopelessly lost on the one way system. New Tram system is cheap and efficient. Oh, and if you have kids ask the hotel about childminding facilities, I couldnt thank the girl enough for giving us 3 hours off!
We booked through Irish Ferries and took advantage of the third night free, and werent told at the time of booking that we would have to pay for our breakfasts for this third night. Also the children's breakfasts were 8Euro each so if booking with them you will need to allow for this in your budget.

I would return here in a heartbeat! The service was excellent, and the hotel itself was great.

My roommate and I arrived straight from the airport at 10 or 11 in the morning. I had e-mailed ahead of time to see if there was a baggage storage area and a place where we might take a shower before heading out; I was assured that there was. When we got there, they changed the room that they had originally booked us in to a triple that was clean just so we could unpack and get ready for the day - even though we were there hours before check- in and had only booked a double!! The extra space was incredibly useful over the next couple days.

Getting there was a bit of a struggle; their bus directions got us to the correct cross street, but we had to ask several locals in order to find the street the B&B was actually on. The breakfast was normal fare: toast, hardboiled eggs, bacon, sausage, black and white something that neither of us managed to dare the other to eat, several types of juice, coffee, tea, etc.

We weren't leaving until late our final day there, so they held our bags in a locked room and then allowed us to wash up in their "ladies" room which had two shower stalls; we were even allowed to use their guest computer, even though we had already checked out - and while we were guests, there was only one time when we had to wait to use the computer. It was a nice service to have a completely available computer with all the normal applications

This is long, I know, but the best part of the whole stay were the various front- desk attendants. We were given ideas for places to eat, they always greeted us when we came by and were quite willing to just chat for a minute or two ... and they gave us extremely explicit bus directions. If you've never been to Dublin, you won't understand how incredibly helpful this is; their bus system is complex - and they have no overall map or schedule, so the only way to figure out how to get somewhere is to ask random people if they know where a certain line is going. When we were staying here, we always knew that we could ask and get accurate directions.

It's a bit from City Center, yeah, but the bus to City Center is a five minute walk and then the bus is only a couple minute ride. Well worth the reduction in cost!!

Stayed here recently and was welcomed in a very friendly way. The room was of a reasonanle size. Breakfast is good but most important I had a good night sleep since the place is located in a nice quiet location. Would recommend to a friend!

“Still good value”

Egan's House

I've been a regular visitor to Dublin for business and pleasure for over 30 years and like to change my accommodation from time to time.
However, I make regular return visits to Egans and am always satisfied by what's on offer, particularly if the price is right.

On my last visit, I paid 60 euro for a single room (number 34 at the back) and everything was fine: good spotlessly clean accommodation and decent food.

Egans is always well worth considering.

We checked into the hotel late one evening and was greeted by excellent staff. She was very helpful and gave us maps and information galore. We left some bags there overnight as we were spending a night away in Galway and then coming back to the same hotel. The first night's stay was delightful - room was very spacious and the breakfast excellent. We went to Galway and returned for our second night's stay. We checked into the room, it was at the back side of the hotel and still very nice. While unpacking we noticed our trash can moved and lo and behold we had a mouse. We went to the front desk to report it and he came and got our things and moved us up 3 flights of steps to the only other available room in the hotel. It was huge! We had just settled in when lo and behold, I spied another (perhaps it was the same guy!) mouse creeping in under the door. SO ... off we went to the front desk and told them we weren't staying there at all that night and he kindly found us a room at a nearby hotel - Maples House. Other than the mouse situation, I rather liked the hotel :-)
