The International Hotel is an independent hotel about ten minutes walk (through a not particularly salubrious part of town) from the centre of Derby. The hotel consists of one large building and also a number of rooms in several converted houses down the road to either side of the main property. Somewhat disconcertingly, half of the block in which I was staying appeared to be boarded up, but the general condition of the hotel was fine if not somewhat old fashioned. My room was large with a comfortable bed, work desk, tv and a couple of armchairs - perfectly comfortable for a couple of nights at the reasonable rate of £69 per room B&B which I paid. The bathroom was particularly old fashioned with an orange suite and green carpet, but again it was perfectly sufficient. Breakfast was fine with a range of cereals and toast as well as a traditional cooked breakfast. However, self service in the morning was somewhat slow as this hotel is popular with coach trips which can mean long queues for the buffet when everyone arrives at once. I did not eat in the hotel in the evening as there are plenty of restaurants in the centre of Derby to cater for every taste, however the bar seemed to be very popular and was reasonably priced.
This is certainly not a luxury hotel and it has no leisure facilities or luxury trimmings, but for a brief stay in Derby for business or leisure at a reasonable price I would recommend considering it.
