We stayed at this hotel for one night on 2 September 2006 as a stop-over between Bordeaux and Calais. We chose the hotel because of its rave reviews on the tripadvisor website. The hotel indeed has some good points. Its location is fantastic - the old city centre with its many restaurants and cafes is within a 5 min walking distance. The hotel is normally easy to find (we had trouble only because the city centre was blocked off because of a braderie), and a dedicated parking space can be booked in advance. The hotel staff was very friendly, their English was reasonable, and they tried to make up for mistakes (no record of reserved parking space, forgetting to unlock front door, late with breakfast). Breakfast was fine - standard French buffet. There were three things that we did not like about the hotel. First, the reception is on the third floor and can only be accessed by climbing several flights of stairs. There does not appear to be a lift. Hauling luggage from the underground parking space about 500 m away to your room is an experience we do not want to repeat. Second, our bed was extremely uncomfortable and left us with backache the next day. Third, we had trouble sleeping because of the noise outside. Next time we visit Tours we'll try another hotel.
