My husband and I had read about this place in our tour guide book, so we definitely wanted to visit it. When we arrived, we entered and started looking around at the side rooms which displayed large tombs and monuments. Lots of intricate detail and carvings, tons of natural light. It was really quite a lovely place. As I was taking yet another photo, my husband said, "You think that tomb is large, you need to see this!" He was referring to Napoleon's tomb. I walked to the huge railing at the opening in the first floor and peered over it. I gasped as I saw the enormous tomb of Napoleon. The pictures I have seen in books had in no way prepared me for the size of this thing. It is gigantic! We went downstairs and toured the other side areas that housed various tributes to Napoleon before getting an even closer look at this really big monument. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful. I just didn't know it was so large. This whole building is gorgeous, lots of marble. The outside of the building has a lot of interesting architecture, too. There is also a military museum attached in the back. Well worth the time you invest in visiting this site.
