“Good hotel in great central location”

Hotel les Cigales

Jul 25, 2008

Like a number of other reviewers we stayed here to go to the Monaco Grand Prix (we were not travelling with any of the other reviewers!) and had chosen the hotel on the basis of other reviews on TripAdvisor.

The hotel offers extremely good value for money ( I should add that they do in fact put up their prices for the Monaco GP weekend, and only accept minimum 3 night stays, but I think that is quite reasonable given the demand for hotel accommodation over that weekend)

The hotel staff were very helpful - like another review says they explain how to get your rail ticket to Monaco the day before and avoid queues at the railway station on the day of the race).

We had the hotel breakfast on only one of the 4 days we stayed, finding the cafes in Nice more agreeable than the basement breakfast room.

The hotel does not have a restaurant for dinner, but they offer you personal suggestions on nearby restaurtants.

As others say the rooms are not large, but they do offer very good value for money

“Still a little gem in the city of £££££££”

Ok, so Nice is not the cheapest of cities, but I love it, and year after the year, the azure seas and excellent shopping lure me back. But where to stay? I have stayed in the 5 stars and the 3 stars, and generally, the 5 stars are not worth the cost, simply because there is so much to do and see, so little time is spent in the hotel.

I stayed here a couple of years ago, and returned this year. Nothing had changed, which is good I suppose. The rooms are clean, and in great condition. The staff are superbly helpful. You can spend ££££ on a hotel in Nice and find it's well in need of a good update. This hotel is close to the sea, to the Place Massena, to the shops, and it's friendly, modern and clean. It is simply furnished I grant you, but it does it's job well, and you will find plenty to buy with the money you save on the hotel bill.

“Very nice hotel in GREAT location”

Just returned from a 5 nite stay..and loved it!!! Nice is a beautiful city and this hotel is great!! It is in a great location..about 3 blocks from the beach and convenient to most items of interest!! The hotel is air conditioned(essential in the summer) and very clean..the room is small..but this is Europe!! The bathroom has a good shower and nice sized...breakfast is about 11 euros..you can do better at one of the many cafes in the area. Taxis are very expensive and are about 25 euros from the airport to the hotel..you could get on the convenient #98 bus from the airport which stops on the Promenade Anglais and Congress which is about a 5 minute walk to the hotel..only 4 euros!! If you go to the Chagall and Matisse museum..take the # 22 bus which is about a 2 minute walk from the hotel to the bus stop..ignore the bus recommended by Rick Steves..the 22 is the bus to take!!(and only 1 euro!!). All the buses are just 1 euro...take the bus to Monaco..a bit longer than the train(still only 45 minutes) but with great scenery, only 1 euro!! and it stops right near the casino in the center ot the town!!(and they run about every 15 minutes) Things are expensive in Monaco..no little cafes like in Nice, but definitely worth seeing...the exotic garden in Monaco is nice, but they have mostly cactus and not quite worth the expense...do see the changing of the guard!!
If you would like a great middle eastern restaurant near the hotel, try La Cigale on Ave. de Suede!! Europe, including Nice, unfortunately is quite expensive, especially with the weak dollar...a cuppucino at a restaurant is about $6.00!! But enjoy Nice, it is great!!!

“Excellent hotel in Nice”

Hotel les Cigales

4 of 5 stars
Virginia, USA
Jul 12, 2008

I stayed at the Hotel les Cigales for 4 nights in July 2008. I stayed in their single stand room. The room was small (which is what you would expect in France) but it was very clean and tidy and had everything I needed. I was impressed with the large bathroom which included a tub/shower, sink and toilet. There was daily maid service which was a pleasant surprise and the room also had air conditioning which I was able to adjust :-) The staff there were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is ideally located two blocks from the beach/promenade and is about a 10-15 minute walk from the main train station as well. There is also an excellent boulangerie/patisserrie down the block from the hotel which had the best baguette around.

The walls were a bit thin, I was able to hear the people in the neighboring room, but it wasn't a big deal at all. I would DEFINITELY stay at this hotel if I needed to get a place in Nice again :-D

“Great hotel”

Hotel les Cigales

Jul 7, 2008

Very nice stay in this clean and comfortable hotel. Perfect location. Close to beach, bars and restaurants. The staff were very helpful and always on hand for advice on nearby restaurants.

We stayed here during the Monaco GP and they didn't charge any extra or rip us off. They gave us great tips about travelling to Monaco on race days and we avoided the 2 hour wait at the station for train tickets because of that.

My hubby and I are planning another trip to Nice in August and will be contacting the hotel again.
