My boyfriend and I stayed for a week at the end of May 2007. I was attending a conference at the International Congress Center on the west side of town and originally wanted to stay closer to the conference site, but a little online research and some comments from relatives who live in Germany and visit Berlin frequently, convinced me that the east side of town is a little more up-and-coming. We found that to be true, and we couldn't have been happier with our decision to stay at the Park Inn.
It's location is fantastic. The Alexanderplatz station makes it convenient to get anywhere in town via subway or train. Just a short walk north of the hotel puts you in an area full of cute, modern restaurants and bars. Head west one stop on the S line to Hackescher Markt, and the plaza is full of restaurants with outdoor seating. From this location you can find a nice compromise between accessing touristy stuff and wandering into quaint, off the beaten track restaurants and bars.
The hotel itself was fine. The room was a bit small, by American standards, but well appointed for Europe. It was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom would definitely be an issue if you are sharing the room with someone and want more privacy, but if it's you alone or you are with a loved one, it's fine. Our air conditioning didn't work particularly well, but the weather was nice enough that we could open the windows. The view from the top of the hotel is nice, although you have to pay a small fee to access it.
In the end, we were extremely pleased with our stay at the Park Inn and would go back again.
