The Sheraton Frankfurt is a business and convention hotel attached to the city airport, a convenient hop over the walkway from the main terminal. Despite it's busy location, the hotel is quiet and tranquil, a literal oasis from the public areas. The hotel is geared to the business traveller, featuring conference rooms and amenities that make meetings and communications easy.*
Check-in is quick, and elevators lead to one of two towers with rooms. The hallways radiate long distances from the elevator core, so ask for a room near the elevators to avoid five or ten minute walks to distant rooms. The rooms are very well appointed, with indirect lighting, extensive multiingual cable TV and movies, wireless internet, working desk, and a generous bed. The bathroom is also nice, and the shower has a variety of taps, heads, and sprays to play with.*
The restaurants are on the first floor and serve from a huge buffet with a working kitchen visible nearby. I can't even begin to list the items in the breakfast or lunch buffets, but it rivals some Vegas spreads. A lounge features light music and drinks; there .is a modern fitness center on the lower floor near the extensive conference center.*
I struggled with the constant effort by the otherwise friendly staff to extract additional money, though. On check-in, I was told that I was eligible for a free upgrade to a deluxe room. Yay! However, only smoking rooms were available: would I like to spend 1000 points to upgrade to the club floor? (I didn't, but it was irritating) The checkout included charges for a "Staff gratuity" and a Unicef donation, which I had to remove. The Internet cost 18 euros per day. The restaurant charged $30 for an after dinner grappa. I conclude that the hotel is enjoying guests who are on expense accounts. You need to watch not to get overcharged at every turn.*
This is a convenient, business-oriented hotel that has very nice rooms and buffets. The experience suffers by the constant bait-and-charge that seems to be a policy throughout the stay.
