“A most uncomfortable Night”

Maingau

We stayed at the Maingau the night before our return flight. It was very hot, both in the room and out. We asked the front desk clerk, who seemed irritated to be interrupted from playing on the computer, if it would be possible to get a fan for the room. He said that he would look into it. We got the distinct impression that he wasn't about to look for a fan at all but was just pretending that he would to temporarily appease us.

When we returned, he said that he would continue to look for a fan, but we never heard another word from him. I carry a small thermometer/compass on my purse and it was 94 degrees in the room with NO air circulation. If the desk clerk would have been straight with us and told us that there were no fans, we would have gone out and bought one ourselves. That was the most uncomfortable night we have ever spent in a hotel.

Our room was on the first floor and faced the street and was very noisy at night but closing the window was not an option. The cost was 78 euro per night.

On the positive side, the hotel is located close to the Main and close to the historic part of town. There is a nice coffee shop next door.

There is no parking!! You must park at a public lot about two blocks down the street.

Our room was large enough (it was a triple, although there were only two of us) and was clean. The breakfast was marginal, compared to other German breakfasts we have had.

Would we stay there again? Probably not.

“Loved Staying at the Hotel Maingau”

I chose the Hotel Maingau for it's description as a business hotel at a reasonable price for a quick overnight trip to Frankfurt in July. The hotel was about a 20 minute cab ride from the airport and a 10 minutes cab ride from the main train station but it was conveniently located close to main square of Frankfurt. The hotel is located in a quiet, residental area across the river from city square. The staff at the hotel was very professional and helpful. The room was a standard size and very comfortable. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and it consisted of great buffet of meats, cheeses, jams, spreads, breads, eggs, fruit, juices and coffee or tea.

The best part of staying at this hotel are the restaurants within a couple of blocks. One of the specialities of Frankfurt is an apple wine and all of the restaurants near the Hotel Maingau serve this wine along with German specialties.

I would recommend staying at this hotel if you want to get away from the area around the train station.

“Great wee hotel!”

The twin rooms are a little basic but that is the only (mild) criticism.

Now thats out of the way I can concentrate on everything else that was excellent - the friendliness of the staff, the breakfasts, the location etc etc.

I booked up on the strength of the Trip Advisor ratings almost two years in advance for the World Cup and the email dialogue between the hotel and I as I amended the booking made me realise that I had a fantastic base in the best part of the city.

Highly recommended!

“Great Location”

Maingau

I stayed at the Hotel Maingau for one night. The location is in the historic Sachsenhausen area of Frankfurt. It was an easy walk from the Bahnhof to the hotel and then to the sights in the area. The room I had was very small, approximatley 120 to 150 square feet. It was very clean with a TV, shower, sink (outside the bathroom), closet and paper-thin walls. The hotel is not for the out of shape. There are many stairs, and the elevator is almost ineffective. The breaksfast is great.

Despite its shortcomings the Hotel Maingau is an excellent value. Not only do you save on rate, but there are no cab fares. I plan on staying here on my next "layover" in Frankfurt.
