We arrived at the Amadeus last week with a confirmation for two connecting rooms (reserved in November). They gave us the keys for our rooms-on different floors!
We explained that since we have small children this wouldn't do and asked if they had any other rooms. They at first tried to tell us it was our mistake, but I had the e-mail there and showed them. They said they had no other rooms and so we asked them to call other hotels to find us rooms.
After some time on the phone, they told us we could have two rooms across the hall from each other on the ground floor (not sure why they earlier said they had no other rooms). Not feeling we had much choice as it was then after 5 pm, we said we would take them for now.
Both rooms were very small and dark. When we opened the door of one, there was a large cockroach there to greet us. The room safes were not attached to anything and one did not work at all.
I took advantage of Amadeus's Internet connection and went to TripAdvisor and found Hotel Puerta de Sevilla (not sure why we didn't book here originally). I figured out it was just a few blocks away so we went there. They were full, but referred us to the Hotel Dona Manuela around the corner. I will review it separately, but it was great.
We went back to the Amadeus and took our things and told them we were leaving.
There are many, many hotels within a few blocks of the Amadeus. The reviews on here mention the charm of this place, but it seems to be the luck of the draw based on what rooms you are given, and reservations don't seem to matter.
