Ok, we did get a great deal (£38 for a double room for a night) but I won't let that cloud my judgement. We had driven 400 miles across Northern Spain for 1 night here before moving on to Porto. City centre roadworks and an inadequate map had left us lost and stressed so I phoned the hotel who guided me to a nearby department store who sold me a better map and indicated how easy the hotel is to find if you access it from the ringroad! We used the underground car park and were gobsmaked by the impressive foyer and vines/plants that hang inside from the 10 floors above you. Hard to explain but it is quite something. Forgot to ask for a non-smoking room when checking in but they changed this without fuss straight away. Room was excellent, clean, well furnished, wide range of toiletries and a huge "sleep for a week" bed. Hospital building work going on nearby but absolutely no interruption. 10-15 min walk to city centre/cathedral slightly uphill but past some decent bars etc. Can't comment on breakfast we were room only but no reason to suspect the hotel doesn't do this as well as it does everything else! Would definately return here (city & hotel) but reckon rates may soar once the hospital and other nearby facilities are operational. If it had a gym and/or pool it would be 5 star. BTW you will sometimes find it referred to as either the Gran Hotel or GH Hotels which I believe is the chain.
