First of all, the hotel is a little hard to find in the pouring rain at midnight, but we got there.. The lobby was closed so we buzzed the manager and he came right away to show us to our rooms. He was very friendly and accomodating. He took all our bags through the rain while we walked behind him with the umbrella he gave us. We then went around a corner to another building with a sweet little courtyard. Our room was older looking but very beautiful. I was in love with the simplicity of this hotel. The bathroom would not be good for those who are too tall or "wide" as the shower was veryvery small. To bend over to pick up something meant both ends were touching something if you know what I mean...
The hotel is a block away from Piazza Risorgimento. From there, you can take the bus anywhere in the city or walk right to the Vatican Museum or St Peter Square. I suggest getting a "Roma Pass" for 20 Euro. With this you have unlimited transportation within the city for 3 days, as well as 2 or 3 free admissions to the archaeological sites or museums as well as the ability to skip the lines. This was helpful at the coloseum. (the same entrance ticket which you get into the Forum so thats a bonus). From Piazza Del Popolo, you can walk to tons of other sites such as the Spanish Steps, Villa Borghese, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Castel St Angelo...
I suggest taking a tour through the Vatican. That is not included in the Roma pass and you will definitely need to skip the line here. (Thats included when you sign up for a tour)
The food was awesome at Riz Cafe in Risorgimento square (most of our meals were eaten here) But at the Chambres d'Or, they also have great food with a discount for those booked here. Also, if you ask, they can make things not on the menu. They are very accomodating and willing to please. VERY friendly staff.
Loved this place, I would definitely return. The ONLY thing about the hotel was that it was too warm to shut the windows and they hasn't put in the a/c yet because it wasn't warm enough yet so we had to keep the windows open and since the buildings are so close together, there is a terrible echo through the streets and it's very loud at night time.
