There are not enough words to describe the splendor of Al Ponte Mocenigo! Based on TA and Rick Steves guidebooks, we booked this hotel for 3 nights. When we turned down the tiny side street entrance to the hotel, we were a little leery, but once the doors opened, all worries disappeared! The hotel is awesome! We booked the junior suite for 2 nights, which has a tiny balcony overlooking the patio area. This room was unbelievable, especially the size....it was huge! The wood beam ceilings and terrazzo floors added that special Italian touch, and the furnishings (especially the canopied bed) just made us feel wrapped in luxury. The bathroom was immaculate, and probably bigger than my bedroom at home. I have never been in such a large room/bathroom in any hotel anywhere. The third night we had a sup. dbl room (the red room) which was even better than the first. Again, I cannot believe the size of the room and the bathroom. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were spotless.
There is a wonderful breakfast each morning. It was pretty cold while we were visiting, so nobody was eating on the outside patio. It got a little cramped in the breakfast area, but certainly nothing to complain about. All of the staff were extremely helpful, from recommending restaurants, taking care of our breakfast needs, and even helping us find the nearest pharmacy when I wasn't feeling well.
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. And to make it all even better, it was the best value! I am still amazed at how beautiful the accomodations were for such a small price.
The location, too, was great. A quick 10 minute walk over the bridge and to all the main sights, yet far away from all the hustle and bustle to really make you feel relaxed and "Venetian".
When I returned home, I was reading Travel and Leisure magazine, and sure enough there was yet another recommendation for this hotel. If you are planning a trip to Venice, don't pass this up. It is unforgettable!
