“A Good Find”

Ca' Nigra Lagoon Resort

Very unique property. Small boutique hotel and very easily accessible from the Roma Bridge. They advertise that this property has junior suites. These are not junior suites in any way and what they advertise on their website is totally false. They do not give you bathrobes, however slips - yes. No type of music system in the rooms. Be careful when booking here as most of the rooms - and that is all they are only have showers. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the property is very clean and well kept. It is a great hydeaway in Venice, but just remember they are not junior suites. They do offer one that it and includes all of the amenities they advertise on their website.
Yes I would recommend this property. The beds are okay, however pillows are hard. Request soft feather pillows at reservation time. It is a non smoking hotel.

“Ca' Nigra- Above and Beyond”

Ca' Nigra Lagoon Resort

A great thing about this hotel is how fast you can get here- it's literally less than a 10 minute walk from the train station, yet its facing the Grand Canal! This little gem is behind a gate opening up onto a lovely garden ( you can appreciate it even in November!) and , as a refreshing change from most Venetian hotels, has a striking modern reception area. The hotel is a mix of modern and oriental; antiques from around the world have been collected by the owner. Rooms are spacious and sunny, and my room (201) had a clear glass shower (love that big shower head!) with oriental prints on paper protected by a glass panel. The gal in the breakfast room was all smiles , and the continental breakfast included freshly squeezed orange juice ( in most places it costs extra!) I had a chance to meet the owner who is young and enthusiastic, you can tell this place is her baby..
Well done, and keep it up!

“A Little Oasis”

We stayed at the Ca Nigra on a city break for 4 nights in August.
Our flight had been delayed and we didn’t arrive at the hotel until well after midnight (we walked from the bus station and the streets were surprisingly well lit), the night receptionist warmly welcomed us and showed us to our room.

Room 10 is not the biggest room and on the ground floor right across from Reception, I think they probably put us in this room because we were late arriving and they didn’t want us disturbing the other guests, this would be an ideal room for guests with walking difficulties. The room was decorated in Venetian style with French doors leading to the garden and a table and chairs outside. It’s worth staying at the Ca Nigra just to see the bathrooms, they’re amazing - ours had glass walls with Japanese scrolls hanging behind the glass, the fittings were high quality super-modern and a fantastic rainwater effect shower. The general décor is a mixture of modern and antique oriental.

We had breakfast of pastries, croissants, toast, coffee etc in the rose garden overlooking the Grand Canal, what better way to start the day. If you’re looking for the crowds and hustle bustle of St Mark’s Square, this may not be the hotel for you. I agree with the previous reviewer that it is tucked away but it couldn’t be more convenient for the railway station and waterbuses, just a few minutes walk away. The restaurants on the Tolentini Canal are close by, the ones round the corner from the hotel weren’t very good.

This is our 3rd holiday in Venice, but now we’ve found the Ca Nigra it’s a lovely little oasis and we prefer it to the Sofitel and hope to return again, it isn’t the cheapest hotel but the staff (who were very nice) set high standards and the renovations must have cost a fortune.

“Nice and quiet”

Ca' Nigra Lagoon Resort

Aug 12, 2007

Situated on the canal we arrived by boat around the corner and had to walk to find the hotel as there is no street signage or big banner with the hotel name on it. Rather, it looked like a house with a plaque on the wall. If we didn’t bother going up to the plaque to see what was on it, we probably would have missed the hotel.

This is a very small boutique hotel with a nice garden and nice rooms.
The foyer is very simple so nothing really to write about there.
To enter your room you actually have a key, not a swipe card.
As you roll your luggage into the room you will notice the room is massive. Its probably the size of 2 standard rooms.
The bed was a king size bed with a hard mattress (which seems to be standard in Europe). Pillow was nice and soft though.
The bathroom was really nice. They have a bido? Next to the main toilet and the shower was really great. Big shower head attached from the ceiling so its like standing in the rain. They also have a separate hand held shower head as well.
Our breakfast was included in the price and for that you get a basket of croissants and bread, fresh orange juice and a coffee. The breakfast was fantastic.
Most the staff were very friendly and helpful, though there was this one particular staff member was not very friendly at all.
The location is not that great. If you wanted to get into San Marco, you could either walk (which is good and bad) or take the water taxi (which was nearby). By walking, you can take your time and walk through the back streets or follow the canal (but could be easy to get lost). The hotel is kinda isolated so I wouldn’t recommend it if you want to be closer to the action.
Overall, its not a bad hotel but I probably wouldn’t stay here again due to the location.

“Rude hotel”

We stayed at the Hotel Ca' Nigra for one night prior to getting on a cruise ship. We arrived after a long day of travel at 3:30 to find that our room which should have been ready at 2:00 would not be ready until 4:00. That was okay as they bought us a drink and we sat in the garden for the half hour.

The hotel is ultra modern and the room was comfortable. In the morning we took a stroll prior to leaving for our cruise. We returned at 11:10 a.m. to pack our bags and check out of the hotel. When we arrived back at our room our luggage was gone and there were three housekeepers in the room. They had removed our luggage to the storage area downstairs. Granted, 11:00 was check out time but I never expected to be evicted at 10 minutes past check out time especially since our room was not ready when we arrived. Although we had not completely unpacked since we were only staying one night - we did not even have a chance to check the bathroom etc to be sure we had picked up all our personal belongings. Sure enough while we were sitting downstairs one of the housekeepers brought some of our items that were still in the bathroom.

The gentleman at the front desk did not seem to understand our frustration and only wanted to bring our luggage back up to the room.

Ironically, we had this hotel and another booked for when we returned from our cruise. Needless to say, we cancelled the reservation at this hotel and stayed at our other option - Hotel American Dinesen which was absolutely fantastic.
