“Great place to stay in Florence”

Hotel Caravaggio

We stayed at the Hotel Caravaggio from 9/1 to 9/3. The room was nice and the bathroom was clean. The room was a double bed room and the typical size of a three star hotel room in Europe. We weren’t street side and we had a view of an opposing wall. That didn’t matter to us though since we spent most of our time seeing the city anyway. The hotel staff was friendly and directed us to the Accademia restaurant. I specifically asked for this restaurant based on other TripAdvisor reviews of this hotel. The restaurant was very good and was one of the best and most expensive meals we had in Italy (80 euro for 2 people). We paid the hotel in cash to avoid any credit card charge problems that were noted in other reviews. However, we did see the bad exchange rate receipt when we checked out of Hotel Sonya in Rome (see my review for that hotel).

The breakfast was the typical European breakfast, very good. We would stay here again on a return trip to Florence.

“Great Hotel in Florence”

My wife, our 2 1/2 year old son and I stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. Our room was in third floor with a good view of top of Domus and San Lorenzo. There are many good points about this hotel, the location is great, a little more than 5 minutes walking to train station (for those who have not been to Florence and have concerns about it, it's a nice area, don't worry about walking!), it's a couple of minutes from San Lorenzo market (great place to shop), and about 10 minutes walk to Domus, Uffizi. The room was perfectly clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they made reservations for us (we called before arriving) for Uffizi and Academia. If you are driving (not really recommended) they have a deal with a garage for 25 E per night (little more expensive than train station parking), but it's very convenient since they bring and take the car from the front of the hotel. The hotel has a couple of PCs with internet access which is very convenient if you need a quick access, but there's an internet shop across the street as well. In summary we really enjoyed our stay there.

“Great hotel!”

Hotel Caravaggio

Oct 3, 2006

Sorry it's taken me so long to submit this review but we had such a great time that I thought the hotel deserved yet another good review!

My husband and I stayed at the Caravaggio for five nights in July. When we arrived at the train station we were pleased to find the hotel was only a short walk away, no need whatsoever for a taxi. When we got to the hotel we were told that the superior room we had booked wasn't available as the air-conditioning wasn't working in it. The staff told us that the room would be ready for us the next day and gave us an ordinary room for the evening. This room was small but perfectly clean and comfortable. The only negative thing I can say about this room was that it was poorly sound-proofed. In fact, the people in the next room knocked the wall to tell us to keep the noise down, even though we were conscious of our late arrival and were barely speaking above a whisper.

The second room, a superior on the top floor of the hotel, was much larger and more comfortable. We were certainly glad that we had decided to upgrade. The soundproofing was much better in this room, with no noise coming in from even the elevator shaft that was right beside us. The only problem we had was that the jacuzzi bath didn't work.

Overall, we found the hotel to be excellent. The location was great and we managed to walk all over Florence using the hotel as our base. The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful and made all our museum bookings for us before we arrived. The buffet breakfast was more than adequate and turned out to be the best of our entire Italian holiday.

I'm happy to recommend the Caravaggio to anyone and would stay there again without a doubt.

    • Tips/Secrets: — Get the hotel staff to pre-book your museum entrance. Also try out the slices of giant, chilled watermelons on sale at a stall directly across the road from the hotel! Unbeatable on a hot day!

“Caravaggio was a lifesaver!”

Hotel Caravaggio

When my family and I got into Florence, we arrived at our hostel and found out that although it said "Shared Rooms, Shared Bathrooms" there were only tents on the property. Because we were staying in Florence for three nights, there was no way that we could stay for that long. We used their internet access at the hostel and found the Caravaggio. My aunt called and within 10 minutes, we had the hotel booked, two rooms for five people. We arrived after that phone call in about 20 minutes and everything was ready for us. Elisa, one of the people at the reception, was incredibly helpful and kind. She went above and beyond her call of duty (and we used her help much more during our stay)!

The hotel is located on a square and there is a lot of night life there (bands, etc) so if noise bothers you, make sure to ask for a room in the back. The rooms back there are very peaceful and quiet. The hotel used to be an old palace that was reconstructed into very comfortable rooms. The room has all the amenities that are expected (wet bar, television, phone, etc) and the bathroom is spacious enough and has very modern appliances. On the main floor, there is a bar, lounge, a outdoor courtyard, and a computer with internet access (but for the reasonable price of one euro per 15 minutes). Also, there is a complimentary breakfast provided each morning from 7:30-11. This hotel was a beautiful place in a wonderful locale in Firenze that was moderately priced. The hotel Caravaggio is an excellent place to stay and was a lifesaver for my family!
