I stayed at the St Gotthard during a trip via Basel where the fantastic proximity of the hotel to the main railway station (50 yds) was important. After purely utilitarian considerations like this I was amazed at stumbling on this little gem (thanks to Trip Advisor). Rooms are simple yet elegant and with, I think, the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. But the breakfast experience! Such a feast in such an amazing wood-panelled salon. The buffet, with every conceivable treat including lashings of wonderful smoked salmon, superb breads, & steaming samovars would have cost at least £25 per head if taken independently elsewhere. As our room for two cost only £110 this was a real bonus. Lovely foyer and great reception staff. This is definitely a hotel to use either during stop-overs between Basel airport and ongoing use of the Swiss rail system, or in its own right to explore the city or visit the annual Art Basel exhibition.

We really enjoyed our stay at the St. Gotthard. It is very close to the SBB train station (and therefore a large network of convenient busses and trams that take you all over the city and its surroundings), but in a little side street that manages to make it a quiet location. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms are comfortable and nice. The breakfast buffet is great, too, with a wonderful selection of teas, fruit, yogurt, meats, cheeses, veggies, breads, and jams. It was a great location from which to explore Basel and feel comfortable. Of the seven hotels we stayed in during a three-week period in August and September 2007, this was easily the best. Highly recommended!

We (a couple with a 9 year old daughter) staye here for 2 nights in the end of a trip between France and Germany. It was the best hotel of this 2 weaks trip and one of the best I`ve ever stayed in. Don`t expect great extras in the hotel (like swiming pool or something like that), but you`ll have a very large room (very, very big) with everything you can think of in, a friendly and helping stuff (familiar and genuine, believe me, it`s something beyond professionalism, they are really great peoplewanting to help you, I can`t imagine better stuff), and a fabolous breakfast. You have every reason to stay here (even a free pass for public transpots in Basel). And, after all, a not so big price (I got it in August for €110 in Hotelclub). This hotel will be a good excuse to return to Basel.

I have stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during September 2007.it was an unigue experience!Iit has a rare sense of hospitality, guality till the small details (which finally makes the difference!).Great location,trully friendly staff,very clean rooms, guick check in and check out,excellent hot buffet breakfast:all these combine an unforgettable stay!I have been in many hotels throughout Switzerland but this one(along with The Schweizerhofff in Zurich) was definately the best!
