“Great Hotel”

Manotel Edelweiss

5 of 5 stars
Chelmsford, England
Jun 26, 2008

I took my girlfriend here for a long weekend birthday surprise in the middle of June.

Transfer
From the airport all trains stop at Geneva main station.
Tickets are about £5 for 2 singles.

Location
The location is very good, halfway between the railway station and the lake, a 5 minute walk to both.
Situated on a square there are restaurants and cafes close by.

Hotel
The hotel has a timber chalet décor to the lobby, reception and rooms, quite cosy and very different from a typical hotel (which is why I chose it).

Room
We stayed in room 726 which was on the top floor and had a view of the Jet d’Eau. We had a large comfortable double bed, table and chairs, lots of storage space, mini bar and TV. The bathroom was fine with the usual toiletries included. For tea/coffee facilities there was an additional charge of 12 Swiss Francs.
The room can get quite warm if the weathers nice and the air con doesn’t seem to be at its best.

Restaurant
The restaurant at the hotel looks great and has real character. There’s entertainment with 2 guys playing the accordion, guitar and alp horn which is a nice touch.
We had a starter followed by fondue with 2 bottles of wine for about £80. The food and service was great and we both had a really nice evening.

Staff
The staff at reception and in the restaurant are extremely polite, friendly and helpful.
The hotel and room were kept very clean at all times.

Misc.
- A public transport pass for the trams and buses is given to you on arrival.
- All waiters, shop keepers, etc speak English if your French isn’t up to much.

Overall
I would recommend this hotel as it’s clean, comfortable, has efficient staff, and is in a good location. I would recommend dining at the hotel for at least 1 night.

“Great Service”

Manotel Edelweiss

4 of 5 stars
St Martin d'Uriage, France
Jun 23, 2008

I chose the Edelweiss because it looked like it would be pretty family friendly, because I was traveling with my 5 year old daughter as well as my dad and a friend. My daughter and I shared a double room which was quite large and had more storage than my bedroom at home! (two large closets plus two large towers of shelves)

The most notable thing about the hotel is definately the staff. There was a problem with our reservation at check-in but they took care of it quickly and with no argument. The whole process took no longer than an ordinary check-in. They made dinner reservations, gave directions and maps, handed us extra towels without just saying "oh, housekeeping will deliver them later," and were always smiling. When one person in our group got sick and needed a doctor, they called one who spoke English and paid the doctor, letting us put the charge on our bill.

We could walk to everything we wanted, or at least to the bus stop which was a few blocks away.

“Highly satisfactory”

Manotel Edelweiss

Yorkshire
Jun 10, 2008

My wife and I stayed for one night and found the hotel perfectly satisfactory for our purpose. The room was beautifully clean and modern although fairly small. the reception staff were helpful and there was only the faintest whiff of fondue of which we had been warned by previous reviews.

“Nice hotel, good value for Geneva”

Manotel Edelweiss

4 of 5 stars
Miami, Florida, USA
Jun 4, 2008

I stayed at this hotel for two nights at the end of May 2008, partly due to the favorable reviews on this website. I was not disappointed. Staff was courteous, and the lobby and rooms give the effect of being in a swiss chalet, with lots of wood panelling. The hotel rate was on sale, so $200/night is very reasonable for Geneva. Overall a pleasant stay, and this hotel is recommended.

Just stayed here on 5/19/08. Geneva is an expensive town so this joint wasn't cheap - I paid much more than $200. But the location is good and staff friendly. Don't worry about the red-light district comment - we only saw that because we took the long way from the train station. The hotel is on a nice square. The restaurant is too too kitchy, if you need to see a guy play the Alpenhorn, tho, go!! (he also does the saw and cow bells).

Actually Geneva's old town is pretty cool, and there's lots of lake trips to take. Wanted to go to Yvoire but ran outta time. We were just there on our way to the airport, which was very convenient.

Go for it!
