A very comfortable hotel. I have had two extended stays here, right after the 2007 and 2008 New Year holidays. I enjoyed both immensely.
As the buzzword in real estate reminds us, what matters is LOCATION. If your primary concern is having an airport experience before/after your flight that is easier than you could ever imagine, this is the place to stay. On arrival, less than five minutes after passing through baggage claim, you can be checking in at Sheraton reception--without ever having walked outside.
Rooms--all non-smoking--are not huge but of a decent size, spotlessly clean, comfortably appointed, with great beds. Bathroom toiletries are high quality. Good mini-bar. Some of the rooms face in, giving you a view of the Atrium of the modern complex; others face out, giving you a view of the airport grounds. As for noise, there's little difference between inner and outer rooms. It's very quiet.
The staff is outstanding. They are really pleasant, thoroughly professional, and always ready to help.
There are a few websites still claiming this hotel has a swimming pool. They used to, but not anymore. They do, however, have a good gym and sauna.
Yes, this IS an expensive place--even if you're paying in euros instead of dollars! But if you're savvy with Internet travel sites, you can find a much better price than the rack rate.
I did not eat at Sheraton's main restaurant this year, so no update on that. Last year it was good, but overpriced. I bought my food at Schiphol Plaza this year to save money, which, thanks to the huge variety of shops, is easy to do. (For healthy food on the run, try the new AH to Go.)
If you're planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Amsterdam and you want to experience the personality of the city, really "live" the city, this is not where you want to stay. You should stay in town, preferably in a canal house hotel. But if you're looking for a quality "big name" airport hotel offering incredible convenience (and you're willing to splurge!) this is an excellent choice.
