I am just back from Amsterdam last Friday and I booked a "spacious comfort room" at the Nova hotel costing me 155 euro a night. The room was a large room with two big single beds put together, the bathroom was small but catered for a bath/shower. The room also had a t.v which had some dutch channels and english channels and you also had the option of paying 12.50 a night for a few film channels. The room also contained a fridge however the view from our window was terrible but I was on holiday and spent most of the time outside and not looking out my window so I didn't mind. The Nova hotel also has a safety deposit box for every room and it is downstairs and it is of no extra cost. There was no noise and the people at reception rang for a taxi.The breakfast was sufficent. There was toast and many types of bread,cheese, turkey,all hot drinks, juice,fruit salad and cereal.All around, the Nova hotel was worth the stay as it was 1 minute from Dam square and everything leads off from there. I hope this has been of some help.

It was close to everywhere i wanted to go. All the main coffeeshops, all the museums, dam square, all the great shops, and right downtown. It was clean and i really enjoyed the buffet Continental Breakfast. It was quiet while i was there. Which was 2 nights. I felt very safe being that the only way in was to be buzzed in. I have just booked my 2nd trip to Amsterdam for my wife and me and we will be staying here again. This time for 6 nights.

Stayed in the hotel over a weekend in May '06, found th staff to be friendly and helpfull Security was good as you had to be let in and out of the main door on a buzzer system. The hotel was pleasantly furnished, although the lurid green walls at breakfast where bit much at breakfast, especially after a night on the alcohol. Talking of which there is no "in-house" bar, however the location is such that there is no problem with that. A resonable sized lift is available for the ascent to the rooms, The rooms where clean and tidy, the one we had was a bit crowded with a table in the room, twin beds pushed together, and a fridge as well as a wardrobe. tv in the room giving all the usual channels plus BBC1 and 2 a bonus for us Brits. the toilet was seperate from the Shower room making it better for two people when one is being used. Our room overlooked the back of the Hotel and as has been stated in an earlier review, a bit bleak, but no more so than any other in a tightly packed city centre. the room was surprisingly quiet, no noise heard of returning revellers during the night and only the cleaning staff allowing a fire door to shut broke the slumber (it was an acceptable 08:00hrs).
This is not the cheapest hotel in Amsterdam, but a hostel it isn't. it is good value, excellent location, no more than 10 minutes walk to any major area, unless you started looking in shops. Breakfast is normal continental, buffet style and you can help yourself to whatever, is available.
I would recommend this hotel to the person who can aford more than budget , but maybe not "The Grand".

We stayed there for 3 nights in early April 06, having booked it on Octopus, cost - £300+ it is the most overpriced hotel that I ever have stayed in ,I stayed in room 16 which faced onto the back of the hotel with a view like Beruit, The noise from the above room was unbearable I complained asked for a different room but no joy the hotel was full, This hotel is defiantly not in the top league 3 star hotels, it might have a lift & be near to all the attractions which Amsterdam has to offer but that’s about all what’s going for it, take my advice & look elsewhere, the breakfast was very basic but there was enough choice so you wouldn’t starve, However we found all the hotel staff friendly polite and helpful, Most of hotel guests where students but well behaved ones, stay at this hotel as a last resort or if you get the price down to halve what I paid
Oh before I forget (the kitchen staff shoud be trained to put disposable gloves on before handling the food at breakfast it was disgusting to watch them
