“Will the change of chain hurt a quality property”

Sercotel Izan Avenue Louise

4 of 5 stars
Etterbeek, Belgium
Jun 24, 2008

I liked this place a ton when it was a Melia property last August--the fact that it's a Sercotel but can't be found in the Sercotel literature on the web doesn't bode well.

The rooms were great--small, but extremely well appointed. And, rare for a Hotwire property, they threw in breakfast. It's in my favorite Brussels neighborhood so I won't argue with the location, and the staff was ,most friendly, even indulging a frank discussion of Mideast politics while the patrons (but not the staff, inshallah) indulged in Chimays.

“Very nice boutique hotel”

We have just came back from Brussels and an Easter weekend stay at the Izan Avenue Louise Hotel. The hotel is a boutique hotel with 60 rooms - we booked in a Superior Double room.
On arrival we were greeted with a nice young woman at the Reception and although check-in time was 2.00pm, we were able to get our room much earlier, thus able to rest before exploring the city. The room was a very nice one albeit rather kitschy, very comfortable bed, TV with lots of channels in different languages, especially French channel (for my French speaking Swiss husband) and BBC 1 & 2 + CNN for me., a nice marble bathroom with amenities. Breakfasts were included in the price and they were very good buffet. Very nice staff at breakfast time too! They were rather overwhelmed on Easter Sunday but managed with efficiency to place all guests for breakfast that morning. The location of the hotel is on a quiet street off the famous Avenue Louise - a very long street with lots of fabulous and famous boutiques. The metro "Louise/Louiza" is about 5 mins.walk and it would take 25 mins.to walk from Hotel to the famous Grand Place. Good restaurants on Rue Jourdan - not far from hotel. The only hic we had was the toilet in our room, and as we were staying during the weekend, no plumber was available :-(..... so my husband who has some handyman notions was able to do something creative - so we were able to use the flusher all through our stay. It is a pity though that the hotel does not seem to take this problem too seriously and for a small and rather exclusive hotel, they should have been able to call on a plumber to repair the toilet flusher. That is our only negative point on this hotel. On the whole, our stay was comfortable and pleasant. We recommend this hotel to travelers going to Brussels for tourism or business.

“Very cosy and stylish”

Sercotel Izan Avenue Louise

5 of 5 stars
Zagreb, Croatia
Mar 13, 2008

I stayed at the Melia for four nights on a business trip.

The hotel is upscale, with a clasic decor, but in perfect condition. My room was very big, although they do vary in size. It had everything you need, except for an Ethernet jack. This brings me to the only bad thing about the stay - the wireless internet connection (by Swisscom) was 17€ for 24hrs and broke every five minutes! Fortunately, other than that, everything was perfect!

The staff were all very helpful and extremely polite. The maid did a wonderful job each time in my room, even nicely folding and putting away my clothes that I threw around!

The breakfast was nothing spectacular but of very high quality - everything fresh and prepared with great care.

All in all, I higly recommend this hotel for anyone who can afford it and is not looking for a modern design.

“Classic and Chic”

Sercotel Izan Avenue Louise

The Louise is a boutique-chic hotel, belonging to Melia. The executive suite is HUGE... very well decorated (classic stile), with all amenities (pilow menu, chocolates, etc)...
The neighbourhood is very nice, lots of top design stores and beautiful streets around.
The location is a little bit far from the city´s main atractions, but its a very quiet place to get some rest. The cab ride isnt expensive and the public transport are very easy to use.

“Nice hotel but the toilet smells....”

Sercotel Izan Avenue Louise

Mar 2, 2008

I stayed for 5 days in room 453 in late Feb 08. I was quite impressed with the spacious room and comfortable looking bed. However the carpet in the room was badly stained and badly needed to be replaced. The worst part was that the smell of the toilet lingered forever as there was no ventilation vent to extract the undesirable smells.

Otherwise for the price, the hotel is about the right value.
