This is my back-up hotel for when I'm staying on business in Brussels. The hotel is essentially a refurbished hotel in the old quarter of Brussels. The exterior is still fairly non-descript and sits comfortably in a district of Brussels that is now resurgent, with an increasing number of fashionable shops and restaurants in the vicinity. That said, there are still many lower cost bistros, bars and apartments nearby.
The hotel reception area and bar is attractively decorated, albeit small. Each floor of the hotel is a rabbit warren, accounting for the age of the hotel. The rooms are very small, pretty much regardless of whether they're standard or executive but this is typical of the older city hotels. What does vary is the extent of the decor. All I would say is that even the standard rooms are attractively decorated and furnished.
The executive/business lounge is nothing remarkable and provides the basic services, breakfast (basic) and evening drinks and snacks (which are typically of much higher quality than the breakfast).
The gym is pretty bleak but the equipment is of a decent quality and normally is fully functional.
The restaurant serves an adequate (if overpriced by local standards) breakfast. In the evening, it faces up as an American restaurant serving a very limited range of dishes. My advice is to walk out of the hotel and sample the numerous Thai restaurants within 100m or head off towards (but not into) the Grande Place (see my review of the Sheraton, Brussels).
In terms of location, the hotel has a links to the metro (within 400m) or the trams (50m) providing excellent links to the city's sights. The Grande Place is a 5-10min walk away. Taxis are in short supply in the rush hour as there's no rank nearby. All in all, a good place to stay as a tourist and OK from a business point of view
All in all, a well located hotel, offering the reliable quality and value typical of Marriott.
