Room number 110 is very nice, it is a ‘deluxe’ room. The bathroom is beautiful. It’s great to have free water and soft drinks in the mini bar! The neighbourhood is not very good and the road next to the hotel is very noisy but with the windows closed you don’t hear a thing. Near is the earlier mentioned new metro station Kerameikos with a square attached with all kinds of trendy restaurants with outdoor seating, it looks very appealing. You can get a train to and from the airport which is very convenient. In the room there is an automated ‘do not disturb’ system but unfortunately room 110’s is broken so the light for ‘please make up my room’ is always on which is not what you want if you want to sleep in.
The staff at the hotel's check in desk is very friendly. The breakfast room staff was friendly too but I found them very slow. I arrived one morning to find a table for two free but they were in the process of resetting it. I had to ask for literally everything: a plate, a knife, coffee, milk for in the coffee. The response was always a very friendly ‘of course’ but it is not a five star service when you have to ask. One morning I asked for coffee, the boy walked away never to be seen again until I asked again. He was very surprised, he must have forgotten about it completely. I heard other people asking for things too: glasses, juice, etc.
Because of the torrential rain I stayed in one night and ordered a drink in the bar. I was the only guest and had to wait 15 (!) minutes for my drink. The hotel doesn’t have ice cube machines although it is something you would expect (maybe not in Greece though?). An American lady walked into the bar to ask for a bucket of ice cubes. The girl behind the bar handed her a cup and saucer, the cup filled with ice cubes, not exactly what she asked for. In the bar, the drinks for the restaurant are prepared and staff keep walking up and down to serve them which makes it more a place of work than a place to sit back and relax. I didn’t like the bar at all.
I travel all the time and use all kinds of hotels, also luxury ones and this room and bathroom are one of the prettiest I have had. Although everybody is trying, the service is not near a 5 star, yet… Hotel Eridanus is easy walking distance from the Plaka which I found surprisingly village like. The excavations all around the city are wonderful. Don’t get me wrong, it may not be perfect but I would certainly go back to Hotel Eridanus.
