“Great Find In A Great Neighborhood”

Eridanus Hotel

The Eridanus offers personal service in a hip, comfortable setting. The location is equidistant to both artsy, happening cafes and the Athens club scene with revelers out 'til all hours. From the robes, to the complementary mini-bar beverages and Hermes bath products, this hotel may be small but offers elegant and individualized touches. Our room located on the first floor was spacious and roomy, especially for an urban property. My sole critique was that our streetside view did not have soundproof windows to block out the traffic whizzing by. For those looking for a unique experience while in Athens, definitely try the Eridanus.

“Wonderful Hotel in Athens”

Eridanus Hotel

We stayed at the Eridanus for three nights in early November. I can't criticize a thing. Room 501 is huge, with a spectacular view of the Acropolis from a large and comfortable patio. In addition to the usual
costly drinks, the mini-fridge was stocked with free water and soft drinks. The bed was quite comfortable. In addition, we had a comfortable couch and chair --plenty of room to relax without feeling confined. A very large wall unit contained a safe and plenty of drawer
and closet space----very well-designed. The bathroom was stocked with good quality amenities. Everything was immaculate.

The hotel staff is first rate. They were welcoming, helpful, and spoke
beautiful English. We knew we'd arrive jet-lagged, so we arranged by email for the hotel to have a taxi meet us at the airoprt (45 euros).
The staff was happy to store our bags after check-out and get is a taxi to the pier at Piraeus for our continued travels.

We found the hotel restaurant to be quite good---and very convenient on arrival day, when we weren't motivated to go exploring quite yet. Dinner for 2 was slightly over 100 euros with wine. The service was great.

We are enthusiatic walkers, and never found it necessary to take a taxi or public transportation as we explored all the must-see sights.
The hotel is quite close to the Keramikos (ancient cemetery) which we almost skipped, but which turned out to be a highlight.

Eridanus is a small, reasonably priced and wonderful hotel which I would recommend to anyone.

The neighborhood is so-so but the property is excellent. The rooms are clean, neat and the bathroom was top grade. Soft drinks and water in the fridge were complimentary The Eridanus breakfast which was included in the room rate was the best and dinner at the hotel is also guite good. The service at the front desk and restaurant were excellent. Definitely would return. You can't beat it.

“Nice room but not 5 star”

Eridanus Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Heiloo, Netherlands
Nov 1, 2007

Room number 110 is very nice, it is a ‘deluxe’ room. The bathroom is beautiful. It’s great to have free water and soft drinks in the mini bar! The neighbourhood is not very good and the road next to the hotel is very noisy but with the windows closed you don’t hear a thing. Near is the earlier mentioned new metro station Kerameikos with a square attached with all kinds of trendy restaurants with outdoor seating, it looks very appealing. You can get a train to and from the airport which is very convenient. In the room there is an automated ‘do not disturb’ system but unfortunately room 110’s is broken so the light for ‘please make up my room’ is always on which is not what you want if you want to sleep in.

The staff at the hotel's check in desk is very friendly. The breakfast room staff was friendly too but I found them very slow. I arrived one morning to find a table for two free but they were in the process of resetting it. I had to ask for literally everything: a plate, a knife, coffee, milk for in the coffee. The response was always a very friendly ‘of course’ but it is not a five star service when you have to ask. One morning I asked for coffee, the boy walked away never to be seen again until I asked again. He was very surprised, he must have forgotten about it completely. I heard other people asking for things too: glasses, juice, etc.

Because of the torrential rain I stayed in one night and ordered a drink in the bar. I was the only guest and had to wait 15 (!) minutes for my drink. The hotel doesn’t have ice cube machines although it is something you would expect (maybe not in Greece though?). An American lady walked into the bar to ask for a bucket of ice cubes. The girl behind the bar handed her a cup and saucer, the cup filled with ice cubes, not exactly what she asked for. In the bar, the drinks for the restaurant are prepared and staff keep walking up and down to serve them which makes it more a place of work than a place to sit back and relax. I didn’t like the bar at all.

I travel all the time and use all kinds of hotels, also luxury ones and this room and bathroom are one of the prettiest I have had. Although everybody is trying, the service is not near a 5 star, yet… Hotel Eridanus is easy walking distance from the Plaka which I found surprisingly village like. The excavations all around the city are wonderful. Don’t get me wrong, it may not be perfect but I would certainly go back to Hotel Eridanus.

“Nothing 5 Star about the Eridanus Hotel”

Eridanus Hotel

Oct 25, 2007
2/4 found this review helpful

Me and my wife just spent 3 nights at the Eridanus earlier this week. We have travelled all over Europe (so aware of European hotel standards) and the Eridanus is close to a 3 star property. Location is nothing great (but I knew that before booking so no negative points for that). It is a 50 Euro taxi ride from the airport. It is about a 15 minute walk to Plaka which is where I would stay next time. Summary of the Hotel below:

Positives:

1. Decent room size (not a cramped European room)
2. Polite and helpful staff
3. Umbrella provided at the Reception (which came very handy for us)

Negatives:

1. The bathroom is terrible - shower is literally above the WC. Although there is a tiny bathtub on the other side with a handshower, its impractical design makes it hard to use without making a pool in the entire bathroom
2. Housekeeping only available during specified hours - we returned from dinner one night at ~10 pm drenched in the torrential rain and asked for an iron to dry our clothes which we had to pack for a flight early next morning. We were told Housekeeping was closed and nobody else in the hotel has access to an iron before 7 am the next morning!! Neither could they provide express laundry service so we had to carry wet clothes!
3. Although they provided free internet it never worked in the room and there was no technical help or any possibility to change rooms
4. Our room opened into a hotel lawn which was terribly unkept and dirty
5. The hotel's checkin desk (too small to call a Reception by any standards) is at higher than ground level (about 10 steps) and there is no porter to help with luggage. With heavy bags it could be a hassle you don't want to have when staying at a "5 star" property
6. The Reception asked us to 'deliver' our clothes for laundry to the Reception one night since it was 'after hours' and there was nobody to collect the clothes from the Room. Certainly not 5 star service.

The Eridanus fell way short of our expectations and even within Greece we stayed at better hotels in Mykonos and Santorini for much lesser which felt like far better value for money.

I will not return to Eridanus ever.
