Stayed for one night at this hotel after having spent two nights at Hotel Rival. It was a huge disappointment after Hotel Rival, which was perfect! The Rica Hotel Gamla Stan isn't bad...good location, older/charming decor, good breakfast, but it isn't great either. The bathroom was kind of gross...I think if they renovated/upgraded the bathrooms and took out the tacky mounted TVs it would be much better. I was pleased though that the breakfast buffett had Swedish pancakes! Very delicious!

“Nice Place in a Great Location”

After reading various reviews on this website of hotels in Gamla Stan, we decided to book at the Rica and were glad we did. It is in a perfect location in Gamla Stan - in the Old Town, but on a quieter street. While part of a chain, it is more like a boutique hotel and has more ambience than a business hotel. The breakfast was of high quality and had plenty of options. The frontdesk staff was very pleasant and helpful. Our room was large enough for my wife and I, and our 13-year old daughter, and was very clean. It was up on the 4th floor, which had access to a small rooftop terrace, which was nice place to sit and spend a bit of the evening. I agree that if you stay on a weekend, you will hear the late night revellers, but that would be case with any hotel in Gamla Stan. All in all, we would definitely stay at the Rica again.

“Great Hotel in Great Location”

We couldn't have chosen a better hotel in Stockholm. The price was right for this expensive city. The room was more like a suite, overlooking the beautiful rooftops. Request a room on the top floor so that you don't hear street noise. The breakfast is very big, all of the traditional Swedish specialties, including Swedish pancakes.
But what makes the hotel special are the people at the front desk. Magnus was very helpful and warm.
This hotel is in the old town and walking distance to other areas. We would definitely stay here again.

“Great location, facilities not worth the price”

Rica Hotel Gamla Stan

This small but charming hotel is situated in a perfect location, right in the enchanting old town of Stockholm and close to many attractions and restaurants.

However, the facilities do not offer good value for money: the room was small (but beautiful and comfortable though) and so was the bathroom. There was no airco, and although it might sound like a unrelevant detail in Sweden, we still had trouble sleeping (it was in August) since opening the window allowed the noise from drunken partygoers to wake us (only on weekend nights). The breakfast was ok, but once again the breakfast room was a bit small.

Overall this hotel is perfectly ok, clean comfortable and charming, however the size and age of the facilities meant no really good value for money. Advisable if you find a cheap deal, though....

“Absolutely Perfect”

Rica Hotel Gamla Stan

After reading other reviews, I was prepared for a very small room, but got a very pleasant surprise. We reserved a triple because we were traveling with our adult daughter. Room 403 (if I remember correctly) was huge. It was actually a double, but a roll-away bed was brought in. An alcove had room for the two twin beds which were made up as a king, and a larger area off that had a sofa, two chairs, and tables. Just outside our door was entrance to a lovely roof garden where we could sit and have wine and with views of the water and lovely church spires. Just one short block from the pedestrian zone in Gamla Stan, with tons of restaurants to peruse. Room very reasonably priced for Stockholm and included a delicious breakfast with many choices. Definitely consider this if going to Stockholm..
