I have now stayed at a lot of Scandic hotels and this one is absolutely fine, but next time I will definitely stay at the Scandic Anglais. I stayed here this time because of its location - it is right opposite the main train station, which saves on taxi money and time. The hotel feels slightly older, but the rooms are fresh and well-kept, albeit rather small. I was on my own in a twin room, so I had plenty of room, but it would have been tight if my husband had been with me. I was on the 6th floor and would not have been able to sleep if it weren't for my earplugs - the traffic was still going (and noisy) at 2am on a Monday night, and the lifts (despite being as far away from them as possible) plinged ALL THE TIME...
If you are going to stay here I would suggest a courtyard-facing room as far away from the lifts as possible if you need sleep. And take ear-plugs with you.
Storage was fairly limited and the fridge was one of those 'one bottle deep' things hung on the wall.
The staff here were however very helpful: particularly in the luggage storage room and behind reception (where they recommended a GREAT Thai restaurant - Koh Phangan (A MUST). I was not impressed with the staff in hotel restaurant (Niki) or its menu so I went elsewhere. The room service menu (from the same restaurant) consists of 3 items (or so), none of which were particularly appealing.
The breakfast was of a high standard as is always the case in Scandic hotels, but the hotel was fully booked (hence no upgrade) and there was a bit of a shortage of tables. The breakfast room was however nice and clean and bright.
Another peice of advice - don't taxi around, particularly if you are staying in this hotel. Take the metro/underground. Buy a ticket from 'Pressbyrån' in the metro hall (under the hotel) for approx. 90 kronor a day. Much easier to get around, quicker and muuuuch cheaper. I have been to Stockholm on quite a few occasions now and this was the first time I used the metro - what a difference - no road rage and getting annoyed with taxi drivers that take you the long way round...
