“Location was great but wierd room for the 3rd bed”

Scandic Sergel Plaza

3 of 5 stars
Sydney, Australia
May 31, 2008

We (Husband, wife & adult daughter) stayed at the Scandic Sergel Plaza for 3 nights for a visit to see Stockholm. The location was excellant as previously mentioned. We walked from the central station with our bags after coming from Stockholm Airport on the Arlanda express train. It was only 5 mins to the start of the old town and walking disctance to most other sites, we even walked to the Vasa museum.
Our only issue with the hotel was the strange room shape, it was a corner room and had a small corridor where you were supposed to put the 3rd bed (fold up). This made it very difficult to get around and even open the room door. Apart from this the room was fine with everything you need. The hotel also had free internet PCs available near reception.
One good feature I had not come across before was that there was a 'bar' near reception where you could purchase various items from sandwiches, salads, soft drinks toiletries and even shirts. The prices were quite reasonable and I saw that the food was re-stocked daily. A great idea.
The breakfast was the standard offering and we did had a meal in the bar on the night we arrived and it was OK

“2 Star room but a 4 star experience”

Scandic Sergel Plaza

4 of 5 stars
Nottingham
May 30, 2008

As others have reported, the hotel is ideally located centrally just a 5 -10 minute walk from the station, the Old Town and the Nybroplan ferry terminal.

I found the staff to be helpful, friendly and efficient. Before arriving my communications were promptly replied to. I requested a quiet room on the top floor and got it.

The room itself was spotlessly clean but somewhat old fashioned with an antiquated air conditioning system , cheap chipboard wardrobe which was on the small side, a small bathroom and a shower which was only adequate. However the bed was comfortable and the room was certainly very quiet which made up for its inadequacies. So although the room is more 2 star, the rest of the hotel - the lobby/ breakfast area and the quality of the breakfast
(lots of choice , efficiently managed and plenty of seating room) probably is 4 star. I would definitely stay there again for the location, the breakfast and the overall value for money (Stockholm hotels are expensive!).

We had a great time on our weekend there and, as well as the usual tourist trail of the Old Town, would recommend the smorgasbord at the Grand Hotel – on the pricey side but still reasonable value, taking in the sights and smells of the food market at Hotorget, and, weather permitting, the cycle hire (from the café at the bridge in Djurgarden) which provides terrific views of the lakes and the Royal Park.

“Location Location Location”

Scandic Sergel Plaza

Jan 30, 2008

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during the peak summer season. The hotel is in a fantastic location. It is in a quiet street just off the main shopping area of Stockholm. The rooms were clean and comfortable with antique style furnishings. There was a nice window seat overlooking the fountain. The breakfast buffet was average. The hotel was full and the staff had trouble clearing the tables quickly. The table were dirty and it was more like eating in a foodcourt. Staff were apologetic for this. The hotel was great value for money for accomodation in this location.

“Super location”

The Scandic is in a great location with Central Train Station about 6 blocks away. There are lots of stores and restaurants within a block We requested an upgrade in advance but the hotel was unable to accomodate us. The front desk people were helpful with advice, directions etc. However, there were always long lines as there is no concierge or designated reception people- so the 2 people working the front desk do it all. Breakfast was great and I would recommend staying here due to the location.
