“Dreadful and inhospitable”

This is a dreadful place with rude staff who make it very clear that you are imposing on their private home.

We were greeted without interest and asked to stand in the rain until they were able to show us to the room.

The rooms are clean but (like the house) unappealing. Their are no communal rooms other than the dining room and doors to all other rooms are firmly closed. It is unclear to guests which parts of the house are private. It turned out that part of the landing was also private (which we found out after angry reception by the host).

The owner's dog is allowed to wander around the house at leisure and made its way into our bedroom (with the baby in it).

We booked two nights and checked out after one. We would not recommend this to anyone.

We only stayed for one nightwe were amazed by the breathtaking views. The location was out of this world walking through the un touched countryside was like treading through a landscape forgotten by time and totally un polluted. The peace and tranquility was awe inspiring. The Lodge was quaint and soon warmed up aided by a log fire which was soon roaring up the chimney. We cant return quickly enough the need to spend more time there is strong we were made welcome and next time intend taking our young son to introduce him to this beautiful display of peak district heritage on our doorstep.

Many thanks to my work colleague for introducing us to this amazing beautiful location that we are certain will become like an old friend to our family in the not too distant future.

“Cold Showers”

Cressbrook Hall

There were four of us occupying two rooms, both overlooking the car-park and a slope up to Cressbrook village. All the best views are at the front of the hall and can be seen during breakfast in the dining room. The breakfast and coffee were good although we were asked to leave the table to make room for other guests before we had quite finished.
The bedroom was clean and spacious with plenty of wardrobe space, clean towels, bath robes and all the usual electrical equipment. The ensuite was very disappointing with a tiny "sit-up-and-beg" type bath stuffed in an alcove with a noisy saniflow toilet and washbasin. The hot water ran out after one bath and was still cold the following morning!
There are no locks on the bedroom doors and some chap came into our room at 1am, switched on the light, apologised and wandered off which did not help us get much sleep.
Although the two young men serving breakfast were very friendly and helpful, we all agreed that we felt like trespassers in a private house rather than guests.
