We had booked another Hotel in the I.OM but we began to feel unhappy about our choice from reviews in tripadvisor and also because they could not give us the assurances that we needed to know before staying there as I am disabled and use a wheelchair. Luckily we decided to cancel our booking and we booked the Sefton Hotel instead. In their carpark their were 2 disabled parking places, this was great as the carpark was small. We had a porter to take up all our luggage to a lovely room overlooking the atrium, as I like to paint it was great to be able to use the balcony to do so or just to sit in the evening and have a post dinner drink. We had no complaints about the room and if we needed anything it was quickly supplied.

The food was good, leaning more towards very good in the dinning room, I did have one upsetting incident in the Norman Wisdom bar one evening when I ate there but I would not judge a hotel on one bad incident. Service was usually excellent for both my husband and myself.. The Hotel's situation is perfect, could not be better. We would certainly stay in this Hotel again.

We loved the friendlines shown to us by the staff and indeed the whole island it was quite amazing.

By the way we had a look at the 1st Hotel that we had booked and it was terrible so we had done the right thing by switching to the Sefton.

Stay here frequently and find it overall a very good place. Atrium rooms are very good especially in the summer sun, and nice place to relax. Breakfast food is top drawer, and bar price moderate. Best place to stay in Douglas.

The Sefton is regarded by locals as one of, if not THE best hotel on the island. It is a traditional seafront hotel that has seen some considerable investment. It's biggest and most unexpected feature is the interior atrium viewable only from floor 1. Many of the bedrooms have french doors which open onto a terrace with atrium views. A nice touch. Check-in was pleasant and professional. My room - 201 - was located too close to the noisy elevator for my liking. It was average size with a small mini-office space in an alcove for those workaholics amongst us. Free wi-fi throughout but can't vouch for how reliable it was as I didn't use it. The room was unbearably hot and I couldn't find any way to turn down the heat - I think they have centralised underfloor heating. Bedroom doors are the cheap and old fashioned meaning there's lots of sound leakage from the corridor. Room cleanliness was good though room smelt too strongly of carpet cleaner and other chemicals. In-room tea/coffee facilities are provided. Buffet breakfast is good quality and plentiful though coffee was awful - hot water with a black dye!!!

“Good Experiance at Sefton Hotel”

Sefton Hotel

4 of 5 stars

Our 5 day stay at the Sefton was generally a good experiance. We found the room quite sizeable, clean with nice decor. A decent sofa to sit. We found the little things were done e.g, biscuits replenished daily, etc. The only negative of this room was we found the beds very hard, which did not help the sleep process.
The bathroom was also of a nice size, towels changed daily if you so desired. Again items like shampoo, etc, were replaced daily. We did find the shower rather small, with the shower head too high to facilitate better control of flow of water. The shower curtain barely came inside the bowl, therefore a great danger of water spilling over.
We did like the balcony which overlooked the internal garden area, it was nice to be able to sit there and enjoy a drink in these classical reproduction surroundings. The pool and waterfall was a nice feature, but we would have liked the water to have been left on over night.
We liked the ambiance of the Sir Norman Wisdom bar, we met some nice people. The staff were generally very nice and attentive. The food in this bar was not great, but rather average.
The hotel has its own car park, which we found a great asset to be able to dump the car off and simply forget about it until next day. A possible negative would be when the hotel is busy, this car park is not large.
Overall, we would certainly recommend this hotel on the basis of our experiance. The staff were generally nice, helpful and quite friendly. We also liked the location right on the sea front and virtually on top of Douglas's Town centre. We have not added any photo's as this has been adequately catered for by other contributors.

“Fantastic venue”

Sefton Hotel

Nov 6, 2007

Have just returned from the Sefton having spent a wonderful weekend there attending our daughter's wedding. We found the hotel staff attentive and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast is excellent (try the manx kippers) and the wedding meal was also extremely good. The rooms are clean and well serviced.

The Sefton is a perfect venue for a wedding, the Atrium/Garden room is idyllic and the rooms overlooking it are ideal for guests attending the wedding.

I would like to thank the manager and his staff for making the whole experience such a lovely one.

Thanks
