“Better then the other said”

The rutland hotel is nice friendly place to stay. It wasn't busy when i stayed, so maybe thats why it was quieter then it would have been in the summber. But thats what i like about it.

Apon arriving you do have some dangerous steps in when it raining but if you take care and hold on to the rail then there no need to worry about them. Even in the poaring road(like it was when i arrived) i still managed to take my suitcase up the stairs without any hassle. But you older people please take care. The staff were friendly and i was checked in, in a couple minutes(granted there was no one else waiting)

I did have to carry my own suitcase to my room but that didnt bother me(its 35 quid or so a night what do you expect, its not the savoy) There is a small lift but i didnt use it much. There is also a maze a corridoors to get to your room but they are all clearly marked so finding the room wasnt a problem.

the food was great, the steak i had on the first night what perfect, as was the sauages and mash, and the manx burger. I held interviews all the first day and they made sure i had plenty of tea and coffee whilst i was doing this.

The breakfast was great and included in the price, full english to continental, as much as i wanted. (making me hungry again)

The location was a bit far out of the main town of douglass but still on the prameade but i had the car with me so that didnt matter.

The room looked quite morden, i like a hard matress so that was lucky. I didnt pay for a sea view and certainly didnt get one but i wasnt in the room much as i was on my own. Only 4 channels on the tv to choose from but i didnt go the isle of man to watch tv. the large kitchen extractor fan was a bit noisy at times, but i asked the manager to turn it off and he did. The next night it was on but i could hardly hear it so i didnt bother the manager.

so for 35 quid id stay there again. Free wifi, free pool in the bar and free parking outside(make sure you get a parking disc from one of the shops or tourist centres for free, youll need it on the island)

“Poor”

The Rutland Hotel

Sep 22, 2007

Just returned from a 3 day break at the Rutland with my wife. We were visiting family in Douglas, so fortunately did not have to spend too much time at this hotel.

On arrival we were given a room close to a large extractor device from the kitchen which we felt was noisy, even with the windows closed. We asked for a quieter room and were offered 2 others with exactly the same problem. The receptionist was unwilling to help us further or to contact the duty manager, who had gone to the bank, and having waited 1.5 hours for the duty manager to return, it was eventually explained to us that the hotel was virtually fully booked with a stag party and no quieter rooms were available. We reluctantly settled for the original room - great start!

To be fair, the room was actually pleasant enough and the bathroom well appointed, though the room was noisy. The extractor fans causing the noise weren't turned off until well after 2300 even though we had been asured that this would happen by 2130 latest. Also, the bed was hard and uncomfortable - we could feel the springs.

The first night, the hotel closed its restaurant for the stag party, which was a pretty roudy affair. When we returned to the hotel at 2230 we had to run the gauntlet of a large group of 'stags' in various states of inebriation on the hotel steps and in the reception area. They weren't unpleasant, just roudy.

The next day the hotel had a wedding from mid afternoon and again closed the restaurant. Similar to the previous night really but at least without the 'stags'.

We left early on the last day and the hotel agreed to provide us with continentasl breakfast in our room at 0615. I suppose we should have known better than to expect this to turn up - it didn't.

From what we could tell, most of the hotel rooms at the Rutland appear to be noisy, though the rooms themselves are pleasant enough. The management seems to place greater emphasis on entertaining groups than accommodating individual customers. There is a 'laissez faire' attitude about the place.

We come to Douglas regularly, and we will not be staying at the Rutland again. Nor would we recommend it to others.

“Disappointing”

The Rutland Hotel

This is a very mediocre 3 star hotel. The reception area was grubby and dirty and the staircase could have done with a good hoovering it was filthy. Our bedroom was on the 4th floor and although we had a very sloping room it was clean and the view was great. The week we visited was the grand prix week which we weren't told about. The bikers were very noisy and the hotel next door serves alcohol all night to non residents so be prepared for some sleepless nights. Although the staff were friendly I wouldn't recommend this hotel. A safer bet is self catering.

“Good food shame about the service”

The Rutland Hotel

Aug 11, 2007

Stayed for 5 days with a coach party at start of August. First impressions were the potentially dangerous tiled stairs into the building which were extremely slippy with the rain, then get given a key and find your own way to your room.
Easier said than done as the building is a maze of half landings and dead ends and the only lift holds two people max.
Single room was fully refurbished and very clean but was spoiled by the noise from a large fan unit situated on a flat roof at the back of the building. This runs between the hours of 6am in the morning till approx 11pm at night, and because of this noise it is impossible to have the room windows open.
The food is good but the method of getting it is a bit strange.
You are served your starter at the table by the waiter or waitress, then your main course has to be collected from a buffet style servery, where the plates are hotter than the food.
The dessert course is then served at the table, then for tea and coffee, you need to go to the bar.
Breakfast is good but as it is a buffet style, it is not always as hot as it could be.
Nothing wrong with the food, just the Service aspect of it spoiled the experience for me.
This hotel is part of a chain of hotels which boasts its customer service and value for money.
Overall the experience was good but not what should be expected of a hotel chain of its size

“Disapointing”

The Rutland Hotel

Booked for one night in a room without sea view as thought it might be noisy, however on arrival was disapointed to have a view of a brick wall so decided to upgrade for an extra £20 to a room with sea view. The room was fine although there were hairs in the bath [ugh!] Had booked a table in the restaurant for our evening meal as thought it might be busy but were the only diners there. The food was very poor. The staff however were very helpful and the manager very nice, after complaining we did not pay for our meal. Breakfast was nice but not special. For £140 for one night I thought it was expensive for what it was.
