Wow, the Borgo di Pietrafitta Relais was truly an amazing experience. It well succeeded our expectations. For being our first time in Italy, and the first hotel above all, it will be hard to beat! Luigi (the manager) was a very wonderful and hospitable man. He made you feel genuinely welcome at registration due to his sincere kindness and warmth. While staying there, the staff presented the guests with a beautiful Tuscan tasting session, trying various wines, cheeses, and meats from around the Chianti region. It was the perfect location as well. Not too far from anywhere. Daytrips to Florence, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, and Siena are all very reasonable from the Borgo.

“Amazing Place!”

This place really is wonderful. Luigi and Vera will take very good care of you. Luigi can give you some great suggestions for restaurants. Try Tre Porte, La Paghera, and Le Vigne...all three were wonderful. Also, we would suggest you do the wine tasting (ask Luigi to set this up for you). It's really not much of a 'tour' so don't go expecting a tour of the winery, but tasting wine on the patio was still wonderful! And Angela, the hostess, was so sweet!

We spent one day on a driving trip and visited: Lamole, Greve in Chianti, Vopaia (great place for lunch!), and Vertine and truly enjoyed it. The drive alone allows for some wonderful viewing of the Chianti region.

The rooms were quite comfortable and have almost every amenity you might need. The only thing we found to be missing was a hair dryer. :(

One last thing...if you have any physical limitations, we would suggest that you ask for a room on the lower part of the property, as it was quite an uphill hike from the parking lot to our room at the top of the hill. You can drive your car up to drop things (or people) off but whoever parks the car for the night needs to be able to climb steps and a steep hill.

You will not regret booking this location. It truly is wonderful. And, if you are headed to Florence at a later part of your trip, be sure to ask Luigi for suggestions, he is a Florence expert!

“This place is incredible!”

When we return to Italy we will not waste our time or money bothering with any other hotel. This place was everything and more than we had hoped it would be. The view from our apartment was amazing. The one we stayed in had a fully equipped kitchen, a washing machine, and loaded with Tuscan charm. We felt completely at home.

The property manager, Luigi and his wife Vera, are the most genuine and sweet people you will ever meet. Luigi was extremely helpful. He provided detailed maps of the area to ensure we would would not get lost while we day tripped around the area. His recommendations on places to eat are spot on! He recommended Le Vigne for dinner on our last night. It was by far the most special and incredible meal we have ever eaten. We even asked if he had a favorite place in Rome. He did and it was close to the Vatican. We stopped in after our tour and we were not dispappointed. We ordered everything he recommended and it was all delicious.

Luigi and Vera really do go the extra mile to make you feel at home. Our son turned 13 while we were there. He was feeling a bit blue because he did not have a traditional birthday cake, only gelato. We retired to our room for the night and the door bell rang. It was Luigi and Vera with a birthday cake! That gesture made our son feel so special. He was in tears as he blew out the candle. He said that was the nicest thing that someone could have done for him. By the way, the cake was very good!

During our stay, we were invited to a wine tasting which was very nice. We were able to see where production takes place which lead to a better understanding and appreciation of the wines and the work that goes into them. There is some construction going on at the property to get the cellars ready to house the wine from their vineyards. In a few months it should be complete and I am sure it will look amazing. The work in no way interferred with our peaceful stay.

We cannot say enough good things about this place and Luigi and Vera. My husband and I joked, even when we were in Greece after having a so-so dining experience, that we should have called Luigi and asked him where he would go. When we return to Italy we will be staying here.

Following a two day visit to Florence, we decided to spend three nights at Pietrafitta based on its excellent ratings at the TripAdvisor site.
These recommendations proved to be totally true based on our own experience at this beautiful place.
The magnificent and convenient location, the high quality of the apartments and above all the hospitality and professionalism of the manager, Luigi, and of his lovely wife, Vera, make all six of us to highly recommend Borgo de Pietrafitta.
We will definitely be back.

“Wonderful Stay in Tuscany”

Our friends and we had a wonderful time at Borgo in late October. The apt (2bed, 2bath) was perfect for 2 couples, and on the 2nd floor of a beautiful stone building that has been completely renovated inside. The apartment was spotless, the beds firm and comfortable, and the bathrooms were very modern. There is heating in all rooms (much needed for cold October nights). The kitchen was large and had all modern appliances. We made a great meal using ingredients from local merchants in Castillina, which is around 5 km away. Property is tucked in a beautiful pocket of Chianti country and very close to other towns (Radda, Gaiole, Greve, Siena, and Montalcino). A big shout-out to Luigi and his wife Vera for making our stay so warm and comfortable. We started every morning with a visit to Luigi to ask him for recommendations for dinner, best way to get to a town, etc. He knows everything and everyone in Chianti, and is more than eager to share with you.
