“Mont St. Michel priceless, St. Aubert adequate”

The hotel was adequate for our needs. We were only staying one night and planned to be out of our room sight-seeing or trying out the local cuisine. I would have been very dissapointed if we wanted more. The front desk was not occupied most of the time, making it difficult to get any information or get a hairdryer (we finally did). The price tho, was very reasonable and it included breakfast next door to the hotel.
We wanted to be close, but not on the Mont which we were, and our room, although "tired" was clean.
That being said, Mont Saint Michel is a sight everyone should see, it is mystical, magical...appearing out of nowhere, visible for miles before you arrive. The trek up to the Abbey is worth the effort...if you are approaching your Sr. years...take your time, rest on the way...and soak in the views as you climb. I found Rick Steve's book gave a great step by step self tour. The 8 Euro price of a ticket to the Abbey is well spent.
We ventured out to the causeway area around 9:45 pm to see the Mont lit up and to hopefully see some of the tide come in around 10pm. We were awestruck watching it light up in stages from the bottom to the top where the golden St. Michel strikes his pose toward the sky. We were actually able to see the tide "galloping" in ,even in the dark...and it is a memory I will hold
as a "life moment" ....We got this awsome photo...reflection was from the top of our car.

“The worst and overpriced”

We booked our hotel thru planigo.com. We originally wanted Hotel de la digue which we found on Rick Steve's France 2007. The planigo told us that the Hotel de la digue was sold out and we can have a room at the Hotel St. Aubert instead. When I checked Tripadvisor, there were 1 positive reivew so we decided to give the hotel a try since we were going to be in Normandy area for the anniversary of D day (June 6) and a lot of hotels were sold out for the day. When we arrived at the hotel, the rooms ( we had 2 rooms) were located at the ground floor, smelly and damp. They were small which is not unusual for French hotel room. But the bathroom was reeking smell, dirty and looked like they haven't been painted for long time. We requested to change the room but were flatly refused. The front desk person told us that the rooms were all booked and weren't any rooms available for us even though the parking lot was empty but for 2 or 3 cars. In the morning the breakfast was very forgettable. The restaurant was dirty and flies were everywhere. We only saw 10 people in total at the breakfast so we were wondering where all the hotel customers were. We saw other hotels next to Hotel St aubert, Hotel Vert looked very clean and nice and the room price (they posted outside) was half of what we paid. Matter of fact all other hotels in the causeway looked better than this one. I will never patronize neither Planigo.com nor this hotel in the future.

“worst service ever”

Hotel Restaurant Le Saint Aubert

We were passing the restaurant, and decided to pop in. Their were 2 families in total. The meal was quite well priced (the drinks were very expensive, which i suppose is where they make thier money and we actually felt cheated into being their).

Worst service we have ever received in France. It was so bad that we actually left halfway through the meal. When we tried to get some money back off the 'set menu' because we hadn;t hung round long enough for the desert, we were fobbed off with excuse after excuse.

My explanation? It was a sunny easter weekend and they just didn;t have the staff to cope wit the number of visiters.

“great location, sort of”

Hotel Restaurant Le Saint Aubert

Picked this hotel because of the location. Wanted to be near but not on site (didn't want to fight luggage on the ramparts, etc)
We spent 2 nites here and found it small but very efficient. Liked the large bathroom, but would have liked a shower. Room was on the parking lot side and very noisy, but then quieted down in evening. (avoid even #'d rooms if you are a lite sleeper)
Check in and breakfast was in restaurant across the parking lot. This would have not been a good thing if it had been raining. Choice was great for a cold buffet (croissants, baguettes, cereal, yoghurt, various applesauces).
We also ate dinner one night and enjoyed the 'special'.

“Wonderful respite.”

Hotel Restaurant Le Saint Aubert

Apr 3, 2007

After wandering through the Normandy D-day sites, we were delighted to find warm staff and wonderful food at the adjoining restaurant of this hotel. We felt doted upon and were refreshed. This hotel is a short drive down the road from the abbey town of Mont St. Michel. This proximity provided us with a quick start the next morning arriving at the medieval town before most other tourists. Lovely!
