“Mont St. Michel priceless, St. Aubert adequate”
The hotel was adequate for our needs. We were only staying one night and planned to be out of our room sight-seeing or trying out the local cuisine. I would have been very dissapointed if we wanted more. The front desk was not occupied most of the time, making it difficult to get any information or get a hairdryer (we finally did). The price tho, was very reasonable and it included breakfast next door to the hotel.
We wanted to be close, but not on the Mont which we were, and our room, although "tired" was clean.
That being said, Mont Saint Michel is a sight everyone should see, it is mystical, magical...appearing out of nowhere, visible for miles before you arrive. The trek up to the Abbey is worth the effort...if you are approaching your Sr. years...take your time, rest on the way...and soak in the views as you climb. I found Rick Steve's book gave a great step by step self tour. The 8 Euro price of a ticket to the Abbey is well spent.
We ventured out to the causeway area around 9:45 pm to see the Mont lit up and to hopefully see some of the tide come in around 10pm. We were awestruck watching it light up in stages from the bottom to the top where the golden St. Michel strikes his pose toward the sky. We were actually able to see the tide "galloping" in ,even in the dark...and it is a memory I will hold
as a "life moment" ....We got this awsome photo...reflection was from the top of our car.
