“Brisk and Efficient”

O Donnabhain's Guesthouse

After reading the previous reviews on TripAdvisor, we were excited about staying at O Donnabhain's Guesthouse in Kenmare. When we arrived, we were greeted somewhat brusquely, given our keys and told when breakfast would be--nothing more.

The rooms were as large as previous reviews had stated; however, we found them to be somewhat spartan and lacking heat on a cold, damp night (the only place we stayed in Ireland that week that did not have heat in either the bedroom or bathroom).

Breakfast the next morning was good. At checkout, we were asked the usual (for the US) "were your rooms okay" and little else.

All in all, we found our reception at O Donnabhain's the chilliest (in more ways thatn one) and our stay the least enjoyable of all the places we visited in Ireland. Given that this was the second most expensive place we stayed during our week there, I would hesitate to recommend this guesthouse.

“WAY Over-Rated”

Based on the reviews, I really looked forward to our stay here, but was VERY disappointed. This was our least favorite accommodation on our recent trip Ireland. While it wasn’t horrible, it definitely is not the standard I’ve been used to in guest accommodations in any of the 2+ months I’ve spent in Ireland over the years. All of the little things that were wrong added up. The rooms were spacious, but not well-appointed. The bed linens were scratchy and the towels were stiff. The toilet didn’t flush half of the time and the heat was not on in spite of the fact that it was 45 -50 degrees outside. While the staff was brisk and efficient, they were not in the least friendly. WAY over-priced for what we got!

“Fantastic! Right in Center of Kemare!”

This was our favorite B&B. It was in the very center of scenic Kenmare, and the room was an excellent value (great shower, too.) We had a delicious dinner in the bar/restaurant. We spent a lot of time walking the town because we were so close to everything. We had a great time at a bar across the street from O Donnabhain's listening to local musicians. The full Irish breakfast was excellent.

Unfortunately, we drank a little too much and had a little too much fun in Kenmare.

I ended up leaving 2 piece of jewelry in my room and didn't realized it until after driving a few hours to our next destination. I called Ger immediately about the jewelry, but his first question was "did you leave your credit card?" Why yes, my husband had left his credit card, and I had left 2 pieces of jewerly. How responsible of us!

Ger cut up the credit card, and the jewelry was found and mailed to my home in the US at no expense to me.

Have you ever heard of such amazing kindness? What great hosts.

Thank you Ger and everyone at O Donnabhain's! We will defininely be back.

“Nice and Friendly Place to Stay”

O Donnabhain's Guesthouse

Just stayed in O' Donnabhains recently and found it to be a lovely Guesthouse and Bar overall. The rooms were spacious, extremely clean and perfect to spend a few quiet days. The pub downstairs serves beautiful food all day and the Guinness is quite good too. My three days were relaxing and the staff were really friendly. Would have no hesitations in recommending this Guesthouse. Also it is perfectly situated right in the middle of the town. Kilkenny Hurling Fan.
