This was my second trip to Malta, and just happened to be my honeymoon! A very last minute trip indeed however...

My hubbie & I were in a bit of a pickle as to which hotel to stay in, me recommending some, him preferring the sound of others.

We opted for the Hilton as the reviews on here were so positive. However, it was definitely NOT 5 star. Perhaps 15 years ago, but alas not now! I think the hotels in Malta tend to be a little outdated generally and I've never understood for such a popular tourist destination, why. So though the Hilton may possibly be the best hotel on the island, compared internationally it has no chance.

The décor is like an old fashioned business hotel, though clean and practical. Not very inspiring or romantic; in fact I half expected my other half to whip out his Crackberry! The pools & outside area are in contrast, fabulous! When we first checked in, there were half finished drinks in our mini bar! When we notified the (very friendly) reception team, we were told someone would be around to check it. No one came... for the whole trip! The breakfast buffet is nice, with great choice. The Spa is super, with a great range of treatments. The concierge were very helpful and friendly, which seems to be a rarity nowadays!

Overall we enjoyed our stay but it was not a patch on true 5*'s.

After always dreaming about staying at the Hilton in Malta, we were quite dissapointed after arriving to check-in to find that our room was over-booked!! The problem was sorted out by us being transferred to another 5 star hotel for one night.Upon arrival back at the Hilton we found we had been up-graded to an executive suite for the rest of our stay.The rooms were absolutley fantastic,VERY modern and cool.The bathroom was huge,they even provide a plastic duck for the bath!!Housekeeping is impeccable.Restaurant's were very organised and the food out of this world.Pool areas were spotless and the staff very friendly,which goes for all the staff in the hotel,they make you feel very welcome and are obviously trained to a very high standard.The location of the hotel is ideal,central for buses or going for a stroll.Will definatley stay at this hotel again,its worth every penny!!

Just spent a week here, as part of a large family group. A really friendly, comfortable and welcoming hotel. The staff were charming and always helpful. The rooms are large, with excellent airconditioning. The beds are also huge and very comfortable - they could do with better pillows though. That however is the only half bad thing I could say. The restaurants were all good, particularly the Italian. The best value food is the "bar snacks" in the Quarterdeck Bar. The pools were great for everybody, no unneccessary rules, and all users seemed very polite and considerate. Thre was a good mix of nationalities. All in all we would happily go back.

This is truly a wonderful hotel in a perfect location in Malta. We visited the first week of May. Given a room in the newly renovated wing - clean, new, perfect, and quiet with a great view of the water. Housekeeping was wonderful. Crabtree and Evelyn amenities. Scrumptious breakfast with everything you could possibly want – omelet station, breads, fruits, yogurt, etc. Hotel restaurants were wonderful – especially the Blue Elephant. Be sure to make dinner reservations in advance – the restaurants in the area book up quickly. Wonderful pools and poolside service. I did not use the spa or workout facilities but they were supposed to be very nice. Quarterdeck bar was lovely. All the staff were very polite and friendly. Executive lounge was also great (we did not use for breakfast) but the afternoon tea and evening reception were ample and delicious.

The first day in Malta we took a local bus to Marsaxlokk. That was our first and last extended bus ride. It was great to see the country at a slow, leisurely pace, but as we were there only a week – it was rather time consuming. If you book with the Hilton concierge desk, you can get a personal taxi for 25/euros an hour (plus tip). We did this both for a day trip around Malta, and also a day trip to Gozo. Totally worth the money. We saw what we wanted to in our timeframe. I had originally booked a car with Drifter Car Rental who tried to rip me off when I arrived at the airport. SLEAZY and UNSCRUPULOUS COMPANY –BEWARE. I would suggest a taxi from the airport to the hotel (there is a set rate) and then you can take a bus to Valetta from in front of the hotel (a day trip) and a bus direct to Mdina from the hotel (another day trip). To explore the more remote areas of the country, take the taxi. The driving on Malta seems to be a bit hair-raising to say the least, and I saw an accident between a taxi and a rental car while on the bus from Marsaxlokk.

In closing, if you are looking for a wonderful holiday - choose the Hilton Malta!
