We were looking for a reasonably-priced hotel for our first night in Jerez, and ended up opting for Bellas Artes rather than one of the larger hotels. We're very glad that we did.
We arrived on foot, and were greeted by very quiet streets around the hotel, which are mostly narrow, cobbled, and many pedestrianised. The hotel itself sits in the middle of a 80x40m plaza, on the corner of which is the rather larger cathedral. Walking through quiet streets on a warm spring night, to arrive at the wide-open doors of the small hotel, which at that time had a paper fan display on the table in the centre of the foyer and a couple of children playing, was a very plesant experience.
The hotel is a square shape, with around 6 rooms on each of three floors, centred on the foyer - so you can look over the balcony of the top floor down into the foyer - again, making it feel very open and friendly. If you go onto the roof terrace, you'll be greeted with what I expect is the best view of the cathedral in Jerez, especially by night - and with 19 rooms, you'll probably have it to yourself. There's a small room on the roof, with what we found to be a jacuzzi inside; I'm not sure if you can see the cathedral clearly from there due to the parapet walls, but assuming it's attached to the top-price suite, it can't be bad.
Our room was a reasonable size - around 4x4m with furniture in an L-shape, and a 4x2m bathroom; decor is rustic and slightly spartan, with rustic yellows and oranges, and exposed beams, and the view (out the back) was of a small alleyway. It's not plushly furnished, but that would detract from the general ambience, and in a warm country I prefer it. I'd expect each room is different.
One point that added to the charm, but could be an annoyance, is that furnishings can be a bit wobbly; while we were there, the shower curtain rail fell down (it was simply wedged between two walls), and one of the edges of the steps to the bathroom fell off. If you like everything to be perfect, maybe you should consider this, but for us, it was fine.
Breakfast was continental and very nice - there was one other couple, and after missing dinner the night before, we managed to eat most of what was laid out. The three staff we met were friendly, although only one spoke (just a few words of) English, and unfortunately we hadn't learnt Spanish yet. The hotel is well located for Jerez itself, although if you have a car, parking might be difficult. It's also tricky to drive to, due to the rabbit warren of streets - it's best to approach from the South East, and there are actually reasonably good signs to the hotel all the way from the city outskirts.
Overall, if you're going to Jerez for a weekend to relax, enjoy the atmosphere, the weather, the food or the sherry, then we found the Bellas Artes to be the perfect choice.
