“Breakfast could be better”

Palacio Garvey Hotel

Had 3 nights at this wonderful hotel and had a huge bathroom with large walk-in shower (Room 3).
Didn't find air con noisy at all and agree that as this is a 4* hotel another English TV channel would be welcome.
Thought the breakfast did not rate 4*. Have had much better breakfasts in other hotels in Spain and the rest of Europe even 3* hotels normally have a buffet to pick from. I'm sure that if we had asked for croissants etc they would have been brought to the table. Had to ask for more orange juice as the glasses were only filled about a third of the glass. Very weak tea, so if you like yours stronger I advise adding your own tea bag.
Had a lovely meal at the Gaitan restaurant which is a 2 mins walk from the hotel, it is in the street Gaitan. Also good 13euro menu at Le Cepo Ora on Porvera again a 2 mins walk.
Did the Sandeman and Tio Pepe sherry tours much preferred the Sandeman, wanted to do Valdivia but it wasn't open. The tapas at the Sandeman was much better than Tio Pepe. Most of the bodegas are within walking distance, a lot closer than you think when looking at the maps.

“A Warm Welcome”

Palacio Garvey Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Westcliff-on-Sea, United Kingdom
Dec 5, 2007

We have just recently returned from our stay here and it was a great experience.

I have never been made to feel so welcome by a hotel, the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, seating you for check-in and offering a glass of sherry while we dealt with the formalities. Still quite warm on the last day of November, so we took ours into their little courtyard patio while they took our luggage up.

We stayed in a junior suite and the room was wonderful, with bright modern decoration in a huge very high-ceilinged room and a view out to the small quiet square in front of the hotel. The whole hotel is beautifully decorated with fine public areas with the odd quirky touch (like the statue of the dog with its leg cocked on the way in!) which stop it all being too pretentious.

My one criticism is that, though the roll top bath is wonderful, its not terribly convenient and there is plenty of room in the huge bathroom for a shower so its a shame that there isn't one - but then I am a big fan of strong, powerful showers rather than long, relaxing baths and I know there are plenty of the other kind!

We only had breakfast in the restaurant, but I am pretty sure I have never eaten croissants that good before!

So - many, many great things about the hotel and the biggest of them is their staff. What a happy, friendly and helpful bunch they all were - always emphasising that this was our holiday so we should do whatever we wanted and leave all the work to them!

“Very Nice Hotel, Friendly Staff”

Palacio Garvey Hotel

Nov 5, 2007

A very attractive Hotel with nice rooms, although the Suites are noticeably bigger. We travelled with friends but they stayed 5 nights, as opposed to our 3 (we have 3 kids, they have none), and they got a suite for the same money. It has all the amenities. The breakfasts are experimental to say the least. The food otherwise was very good.

“Beautiful hotel”

This is a beautiful hotel in the centre of Jerez. The rooms are amazing and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. There are many areas in the hotel to sit and relax, all beautifully furnished. All the rooms had air conditioning and even though it was late October when we stayed, we did need to use it. Despite a previous comment, we did not find the air conditioning noisy at all. The standards in this hotel are very high and the staff seem intent on making your stay as pleasant as possible. One word of advice, don't use a car - it is so stressful driving around the one way system and narrow lanes. We had difficulty locating the hotel and arrived hot and bothered after a long day. It was therefore wonderful to check in and go to our room and find a bottle of cava on ice! It was so welcome and very much appreciated. We didn't eat in the hotel apart from breakfast , which was different but very nice. We would love to go back to this hotel and probably will. We met a lovely couple who were on honeymoon and they thought it was a perfect place to spend a romantic getaway.

“Nice hotel, but problems in the room!”

Palacio Garvey Hotel

We stayed in the hotel for one night, we got a good deal on the internet ([--]).
Check-in was very friendly and nice, we also got our room as early as 11 a.m. which was very much appreciated.
Our room was much smaller than the rooms shown on their webside, but for only one night still ok. No direct view because the window was on the higher room level.
The toilett was just in front of the bathtub so tall persons knees will always touch the bathtub, but still ok.
The big problem was the aircondition, it was so loud, impossible to sleep. Also even when putting the temperature up to 29 degree celsius, freezing cold air came out, so we had to switch it off and open the window (no lights switched on). Then we had a hole night fighting mosquitos, hard to find while the room is all with dark-brown leather furnishing. We killed 3 of them, but still had others around. Each of us got around 10 bites, and we used a lot of autan!!!
The night was horrible, I still give 4 stars because the hotel is really nice decorated and the rooms are well done as well. Breakfast was also nice and receptionist friendly, even nobody really cared about our complaint (air-con and mosquitos). Free internet is available in the lobby.
BUT, don´t pay the rack-rate, in my opinion it is not worth that money.
