Desire Resort & Spa

Desire Resort is probably innocent of this situation, but they required all reservations tobe made through "Lifestyles Resorts"' in Anaheim, CA for the third week of July. Lifestyle resorts required all the money to be paid up front and they were supposed to pay our thousands of dollars to Desire one month before our vacation. They have not paid it and literally hundreds of guests are now having to pay when they arrive in Desire even though they already paid for their vacation to lifestyles. Desire is trying to offer a weak discount of 25% which doesn't mean much when $3,000 to $5,000 has already been paid by most guests. My advice is to book with Desire direct or go with a safe company like this trip advisor or expedia, etc. Lifestyle resorts, you must understand is a company which was a mega site and has been in business for a long long time. It was not a fly by night company. I have registered a complaint with the FBI. regarding the resort itself, those people who wrote it is a great resort are truthful. It is the best resort we've even stayed at because they bend over backwards to accommodate the guest. The food is safe and they are very very clean. We love the ambiance as a couple and it brought us closer together. We are not swingers. We are a simple Christian couple in love. We wish we didn't just lose our $5,000 because it was to be our 30th anniversary. So we are discouraged but we have faith in our God, our relationship, and we hope Desire gets through this ok because they probably are just as frustrated as the guests. Imagine having to tell the guests as they arrive that they have to pay or they can't stay when the guests have vouchers proving they already paid a legimate registered travel agency with alot of good history behind it. sincerely, drtonydandmary@yahoo.com

Apologies for the lateness of this review and in advance for the length! We stayed here for 2 weeks in May and had the most amazing holiday we have ever had.

We do enjoy being naked on holiday (when we do not have the children with us) which is what initially prompted us to look at Desire but we were curious/concerned/excited about the prospect of a CO resort with the sort of erotic environment that Desire has. We are not a lifestyle couple but are open minded and always work hard to ensure we do not lose the spark in our relationship.

Like many women, I have body issues and could stand to lose quite a few pounds and although I know that being nekkid (from previous holiday experiences) does have a habit of making you forget about these issues, I was concerned that in this different sort of environment we may be surrounded by “Ken and Barbie” types that would make us feel a little uncomfortable….this was just so far from the truth. We had such a great time meeting people (mainly Americans hut there were a few Brits and other Europeans) who were in the main, respectful and non-judgemental and although there were a few hard bodies, these really were in the minority. There were all ages during the 2 weeks we were there from 20’s to 70’s and all sizes and body shapes and after just a few minutes you do not notice any of these things. Despite what was said in the review below, age does not matter and neither does body size, skin colour, scars or any of the other things that makes each of us unique. We were all just nekkid people having fun in the sun in a safe environment with our loved ones. This sounds very clichéd but when you talk to people at Desire, age etc really does not exist (it’s only a state of mind anyway!) We talked and mixed with people of all ages and spent most of our time with a couple some 10 plus years older than us. Desire is not about going along to ogle young, hard bodied people getting it on – it is about re-connecting with the one you love (with or without the involvement of others), in the company of like minded people in a relaxed erotic environment.

There really is no such thing as seeing something at Desire that you do not want to see – you either avoid those areas if such things offend (i.e. the Jacuzzi lounge and the playroom) or you simply do not book this place – the Resort clearly advertises as being lifestyle friendly so caveat emptor. As for being offended by older people enjoying each other well we only marvelled at the couples in their 60s and 70s and we both sincerely hope that we are able to continue to enjoy ourselves and each other in the same way and with the same passion when we reach that age!

As for the hotel – this was our first time to Mexico but we have travelled extensively all over the world and have been lucky enough to stay at some of the best hotels in the world. The service levels at Desire (which we understand are common throughout Mexico) were far higher than anything we have experienced (other than e.g. the odd night at places like Le Manoir but you expect that when paying at least £800GBP per night). It was not just the service but it was the way in which the staff really genuinely appeared to enjoy serving you and clearly enjoyed their jobs (although who can blame them working at a place like that!).

The rooms were just ok. We had a garden view room. The bathroom was a little dated but the fittings had obviously been replaced recently, the water pressure was good and it was very clean and spacious. The bed was only a queen (would have preferred a king) but was comfortable enough and we had plenty of storage, a safe and a fridge stocked with water, soft drinks and beer. There were also tea and coffee making facilities and flat screen TV. We were on the 1st floor and our building had a communal balcony shared with the other (5 I think) rooms on our floor. The only issue with this was that we would have enjoyed spending more time on our balcony but we were in the end room and there was no room on the balcony in front of our room for balcony furniture. The balcony widens in the middle between the middle two rooms and there was a table and 4 chairs here. Unfortunately, the people in those rooms left items on the table and clothes etc on the chairs the entire time we were there so we felt unable to have breakfast etc on the balcony which we would have liked to have done. No big deal though as we were up early each day to grab a beach bed anyway.

The beach was lovely. It was not private and therefore you do get people from neighbouring resorts walking across the beach but there are also security guards from the hotel patrolling the beach and, on the rare occasion, that you do get people from other resorts clearly walking backwards and forwards all the time the security guards did have a word with them. We did have a good laugh at this when you saw it – especially as it was usually men on their own who had presumably left their wives next door whilst they went for a “stroll”.

They have a large number of beach beds on the beach. They are connected to one another but have curtains draped between and they are super king size so plenty of room. There really was nothing better than laying here naked next to your loved one feeling the sea breeze and the sun on your naked skin. The beach beds had to be booked with Cid in the morning (he arrives at 7am) and this is an area where they could do with altering the rules . When we first arrived we managed to get a beach bed every day and did not have to be up particularly early but then for the last week of our stay we found we had to get up at 6.30am to get down to the beach. What originally used to happen was that you would claim a bed and lie on it until Cid turned up at 7am or so and he would then walk along the beds and log your name and room number so that the bed you were on was allocated to you. However, as things got busier not the resort just busier with beach-preferring people), we found that people started to queue by the beach bar and then they would give Cid their bed numbers as soon as he came along at 7am and claim their beds (even if they had not been to that bed) so that by the time Cid walked along the beds, you could easily find that the bed you had been occupying since 6.30am had been allocated to someone else and you had to vacate and either do without or find another bed. So in the end we had to start joining this queue every morning. This really is an area they need to work on. They also did not police the beds when people left them and one day the bed next to us was empty all day until approx 2.30pm as the couple had been seen in reception leaving for a trip at 8am that morning. Cid was informed but he refused to free up the bed for anyone else

The pool area was also great and they have a lot of comfortable loungers (could still use a little more shade). The pool area tended to play relaxing music for some of the morning but then activity and noise levels would increase. We would usually leave the beach for a leisurely sit down lunch poolside and enjoy the entertainment before either spending the afternoon in/around the pool or grabbing a bottle of champagne (thanks Memo!) to take back to our beach beds.

We thought the food was excellent . Yes of course we have had better – when we have paid for it but this is an all inclusive resort and we found the food quality to be far superior to any of any all inclusive resort we have stayed at before. We loved the ambience of El Piacere but preferred the menu at Suki (although they could do with looking at acoustics in there as it was often far too loud to talk and be heard in there). We were lucky enough to eat at the Hibachi grill too which was one of our favourite evenings. The buffet was also very good with a great choice of food and much less canteen like than your usual buffet type restaurant. The Italian was probably our least favourite but that was just a matter of personal choice. The late night pizzas from the lobby were always great too as was breakfast – I got so used to my smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels washed down with copious champagne every morning!

The drinks were great (although I’m sure that all those mud slides were what contributed to that additional 17lb I put on in 2 weeks!). There was some variation in what you got from bar to bar and I was a little disappointed when I could not get champagne on our last evening (particularly as we had ordered a lobster meal) but generally availability was very good.

Entertainment was good although we have to confess that this is usually the least important part of our holidays. The young crew were clearly very good at their jobs and some of the games they played around lunchtime at the pool really were very funny to watch. We saw the entertainment in the disco on some nights and that was also fun and fairly raunchy most nights. We were usually still having dinner when the bands in the lobby were playing but what we saw of them, most were very good.

The disco was just ok. For the most past the music was not really to our taste and for the middle part of our stay we often found that the DJ would be playing Latin-American type music later on in the disco and this tended to mean that guests (other than the South Americans) tended to drift away.

We found the playroom off the disco to be clean and reasonably well-used whenever we were in there and we enjoyed our time spent here.

Activity – Being there for two weeks meant we saw lots of guests and groups coming and going and activity levels peaked and dropped at various times. Activity levels were at their highest when we first arrived and for the first few days and they seemed to be picking back up again about the time we left (although by then we were shattered and ready for a rest!). As we said earlier, most people were great and respectful and we can honestly say we only met 2 people who we subsequently avoided (you get jerks everywhere) and when you’re in any resort for 2 weeks to only come across 2 real jerks is pretty good going. Interestingly enough, one of those people only seemed to be there for one day and her behaviour was actually so offensive to so many people we wondered if she was actually asked to leave.

We had both the couples sensual massage in the resort and also went to visit the famous Claudia off-resort. Both were fantastic but in completely different ways and both we would do again in a blink.

We are lucky enough to go away several times a year but thus far, we have never been to the same resort more than once. This is the first place that we have wanted to return to and in fact, we have already booked to go again early September this year for a week and we are likely to make this a regular trip. Someone said to us before we went that going to Desire is a little like a dream – whilst you are living the dream it all seems to make sense and all seems to be perfectly normal and acceptable and when you look back in the cold light of day it’s hard to believe that all those experiences etc were all a normal part of the environment you were in at that time – and very hard to explain to someone who has not been. If you are relaxed and open-minded and want somewhere with the freedom to re-connect with your partner in a safe and erotic environment then this really is the place for you – regardless of age, size or any other distinguishing characteristic!

“Our Favorite Lifestyle Resort in the World”

Desire Resort & Spa

We absolutely LOVE this resort!!! In fact, we can't wait to go back...again and again. It's imperfect, and doesn't pretend to be a Ritz or Hyatt, and that makes it perfect.

A small resort, with a haphazard collection of rooms located in two story buildings scattered around the lush, palm filled property. The rooms are clean, and housekeeping often leaves towels folded in various animal origami configurations on your bed. Yeah, the shower may leak onto the floor, and you might see a lizard on your wall from time to time, but the rooms are clean and charming.

Our usual schedule:
11:00am - we try to wake up before this magic hour so we can make it to the breakfast buffet and get a custom made omelet.
Post Breakfast - lounge on a beach bed, where we sleep, swim, order cocktails, socialize and play with new friends.
Lunch - sometime mid-afternoon we wander over to the poolside restaurant and order fish tacos. Sitting in the sun and socializing.
Post-Lunch - napping on a beach bed, and then heading over to the pool a little before sunset. Regardless of where people spend their day, they always seem to migrate to the pool in the late afternoon, where cocktails and conversation flow freely.
Evening Jacuzzi - from the pool we head up to the rooftop jacuzzi, where we might join a pile on one of the beds, or simply kick back in the giant hot tub talking to friends.
Dinner - you can find us either at the Asian restaurant, usually at the big social table in the middle (the Hibachi grill is fun, but limited to 6 people) or at the international restaurant if we're with a group.
Post-Dinner - change for the disco and meet everyone in the social area outside the main lobby.
Disco - socialize, dance, and perhaps play with friends in the big room behind the disco.
Post-Disco - if not heading to someone’s room, you can find us on one of the beach beds, alternating between star gazing and screaming.
Bedtime - might stop for a pizza at the bar by the reception area (open all night), there's always a lively crowd at 4:00am, and then it's off to bed.
Next Day - repeat.

Side Trips: Sometimes we just need to get out of the resort. We hate Cancun proper, with it's Denny's and Planet Hollywood’s, so we rent a car and drive south to either Play Del Carmen (great shopping) or Tulum (best beaches in the world). We've also gone to Xel Ha where we've swam with dolphins and floated the lazy river.

Summary - GO HERE! You'll have the best vacation of your life.

I want to be very fair here on my point of reference. My husband is 31, I am 27, we are fun athletic, love to travel, etc. If this is you, don't go. I am not trying to be mean at all...but just don't go.

The resort was at capacity and there was not a single other person under 40. I would say that 80% of the crowd was 40-55. And lets just say that keeping in good athletic shape was not a priority. Again, not trying to be mean. But I saw too much of stuff I did not want to see. WAY too much.

We lasted 18 hours, locked in our room for most of it because we were scared to go out. We did go swimming on the beach, but all the beds and chairs were taken, there were totally not enough, so that was lame. Same story at the pool, where I had no need to go.

We did try to get the actual experience, and went to the rooftop hot tub. My eyes are still burning. At least everyone was having a good time, but if I want to venture into a mens locker room, I will, but I dont.

We were due to stay 3 days, but thank god they let us transfer to Temptation instead. That was the fun party vibe with lots of young people with lots of topless (but nothing else, yay.) It's not as nice, but whatever, it had an awesome beach, 3 pools, lots of beds and chairs, and no naked old men and women.

Good stuff, to be fair:
-Good food in the Japanese restaurant
-Nice enough rooms, but it should be for the price
-Cool lounge area by lobby (although not my scene later)

Way overpriced. I am traumatized. But it all ended well.

PS, its $31 into Cancun, each way.

This is a beautiful resort for swingers however do not get scammed into their "private tour and free massages". All this is is a sales pitch for a timeshare/RCI points deal. We and others bought into it and are having nothing but trouble getting what we paid for. Big Rip Off!!!
