“Ok, not great”

Hotel Charsfield

This hotel is very pretty from the outside but the room we were given (we were told we were upgraded upon check in to a 'deluxe') wasn't great. It was clean and had all the basics but the furnishings are rather outdated and sparse. Goodness knows what a 'standard' room would have been like.

We had dinner once in the restaurant but, again, this wasn't great and I suffered a slight stomach upset afterwards.

I actually loved the location of the hotel on St. Kilda Road - great proximity to Chapel St and an easy tram ride to the City centre of Melbourne or to St. Kilda Beach. I did find it slightly strange being in a hotel surrounded by office buildings which were ghost towns at the weekend. There aren't many/any restaurants really near by (unless you count McDonalds and Nandos) but the ease of getting trams to more lively areas means this is not a problem.

We loved Melbourne and will definitely be back - perhaps not at this hotel as we could probably find something for the same money, nearer to the centre. Hvaing said that, I do thank the Hotel Charsfield for being so close to areas such as Chapel St and St Kilda as I would probably never have discovered them otherwise!

“Great service for a great hotel!”

Thanks to the recommendations on trip advisor we booked at Charsfield hotel. We did not regret it!

We are a French/Italian family of 5 persons (a couple + 2 children + 1 grandpa). We very much enjoyed our stay at the Charsfield Hotel, where we stayed 6 nights in total, last February and March.

First of all, because the hotel is really very beautiful, cosy & so quiet.
We tried the Junior suite, Deluxe room and 2 bedroom apartment : everyone of them provided perfect comfort with lovely decoration details. All that very near from city center. We never waited more than 10 mn before getting a tramway. The location of the hotel is really excellent to go visiting Melbourne, to go shopping, & also to depart for some touristic tours (Philip Island & penguins parade, Ballarat, ...)

Second, because the employees were very professional, helpful & friendly.
We had to check-in and out several times, because we went away a few days for a journey to Tasmania leaving some luggages at Charsfield hotel, and once we were back, we also changed from a room to an apartment. At any time, employees at reception desk made their utmost to make things easiest and as fast as possible. We very much appreciated it.

Last of all, services provided by the hotel.
It is great to have a wi-fi free unlimited access in your bedroom. We loved that! And for my dad who had not laptop with him, he could use freely internet on the pc in the reading room! The reading room is also a very nice room where we spent some time because it was so pleasant with its nice furnitures.
Laudry service was very useful to us also.
Restaurant in the hotel is great too! One really has to try it one time at least!

Conclusion, we surely will come back to Charsfield hotel if we go again to Melbourne and positively recommend it to anyone.

“Not very helpful”

This was my first trip away with my young daughter and we were accompanying my husband on a business trip. Looking back, perhaps I didn't research it well enough - however even so, I think the staff could have been a bit more helpful to me.

I guess I have gotten used to the treatment I usually receive when I stay with him in Sydney - however not once did anyone come to help me get my pram up the stairs (the only way in) to the hotel.

The location is not really suitable if you are wanting to go shopping or do touristy things as it not very close - there is also not many restaurants in the area. It would suit people who have business in the area (as my husband did.

The free internet was great!

“Free Wireless Internet”

I picked this hotel after reading other reviews on this website. I was not disappointed.

I enjoyed the Hotel Charsfield. The room was clean, the bathroom was clean and functional, the television worked, and the location was great being adjacent to a tram line.

The free internet was a real bonus in a country (Australia) where charging for the internet is the norm. When I checked in I was given the passphrase for the wireless connection and that worked very well.

There were laundry facilities which I used ($4 for the washing machine, I think it was $2 for washing powder).

Overall I was happy with my stay at Hotel Charsfield.

“A Gem”

This is a gem of a hotel.
The building is very pretty and well appointed, but it is not just for appearances. The rooms are very spacious, unusually large.
Airconditioning is excellent.
Location is quite good. If you don't have a car, a short ride on the tram will deliver you to the city in 10 minutes or to St Kilda in the opposite direction.
The whole area and the hotel are picturesque and cozy.
Prices were reasonable for Australia (an expensive country).
Internet is free, including free wi-fi access in your room for your laptop.
Highly recommended for leisure tourists, and business people on business in the vicinity (there are many corporate offices in that area as well).
