We stayed in a one-bedder on 12th floor, looking towards Spencer St. The room was fantastic: modern, spacious, clean. It had a full kitchen, a ginormous bed, and two tv's. A very comfortable way to spend a few days in Melb. There is a gym on 15th floor, and a 12m indoor lap pool as well.
This Medina is situated about 600m walk from the heart of the shopping area, but it is an easy walk. In the opposite direction, the Telstra dome is down the road, and you can also walk to the casino, southbank, and the botanical gardens (about 3km).
The downside (apart from current constructions across the road) is the Medina's proximity to the train lines. We found the rumble of trains to be frequent and a little disruptive. But the ear plugs worked a treat.
All in all, a very comfortable stay. And the best coffee in Melbourne is served at the cafe next door (566 Flinders)!

I stayed with a workmate at the Medina Northbank for two nights as I was attending a conference at the Melbourne convention centre.

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment on the 10th floor. Our view and balcony was facing Spencer St, looking out you could see Southern Cross Station (Spencer St station), the Grand Hotel, Melbourne Convention Centre, Melbourne Exhibition Centre and some of Crown.

The apartment had a full kitchen, meal area, lounge, bathroom with bath/shower, and bedroom, 2 TVs, stereo, DVD player, washer & dryer. We requested twin beds as we didn’t fancy sleeping together and staff were happy to carry out this request as we notified them in advance. The apartments are serviced each day.

The room was very modern, good size and I would be more than happy to come back and stay here again. I had a look at the two bedroom ones as well and a family could easy stay in them and not feel cramped up with each other.

We got a good deal on the costing from the Medina website and found the price very good for the location of being in the CBD and the size of the room.

There is some building works going on across Flinders St, but we didn’t hear anything, and only once (at 8pm) heard a freight train on the train tracks.

There is a 7-11 on the corner of Flinders and Spencer Sts (about 5 doors down the street) to pick up snacks. For breakfast I ate at 556 Flinders St (2 doors towards Spencer St) and for $8 got toast, mushrooms and bacon. The food was delicious, atmosphere great and staff wonderful.

Would recommend this accomodation to anyone.

Stayed here for the Formula One Grand Prix and location was perfect with a tram stop a short distance away. A bit pricey, but expected during an international event. The major disappointment was the construction site across the road. This made for an awful view, lack of privacy and was quite noisy. Upon complaint, we were moved to a higher level room on the side of the building which was a lot better, but you could still hear the trains which run not far from the hotel. Our one bedroom apartment was excellent - modern, complete with kitchen and laundry facilities. Staff were most helpful and polite. Recommended hotel if you don't want to sleep in or don't mind slight noise.

Well, rooms are small (studio type), view is awful even from the 1Oth floor (1meter away from another building. A great view if you love to stare at people sleeping in their beds!). The room was not equipped with a washing machine and a dryer as advertised. Location, on the other hand, is pretty convenient (city center, shops, etc.) but it's really noisy (trains all day long). Noise is also a problem in the apartment itself, since -if you keep the windows opened- you'll hear the occupants next door talking on their balconies!
The pool is ridiculous. It's small and covered (no view, no space even to lie around!). My feelings are mixed. I found this quite expensive, although Melbourne IS expensive.
