“Outstanding”

Arcadia Lodge

This ranks as the best B&B I've ever stayed at, and I've stayed at quite a few. The Arcadia Lodge is perched on a hill in the town of Russell, in the Bay of Islands. The views are truly amazing, with most (and perhaps all, but I'm not certain) of the rooms looking out to the water. The rooms - as well as the rest of the house - are exquisitely and tastefully decorated (I stayed in the Tautoru suite, which had a somewhat beachy feel, private deck, and excellent views). Great beds/bedlinens too....I slept like a log each night. My personal favorite was the Arcadia's main deck, which is perfect for sipping a glass of wine in the late afternoon sun. Finally, the owners, David and Brad, are very friendly, accomodating, and all-around great hosts.

Russell is a much more attractive and low-key town than its more touristy sister across the water, Paihia. It feels islandy, with some quality restaurants, a few shops, a little museum, several other historical sights, access to all of the Bay of Islands water-related tours and sailing, as well as a nice beach. If you're looking for nightlife, you won't find it. However, if you're looking to relax in a beautiful spot, go to Russell and stay at the Arcadia Lodge. I certainly intend to return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Arcadia Lodge!
The room was very comfortable and well appointed and the attached deck had a fabulous view where we enjoyed a bottle of wine. Our hosts were extremely gracious and were very helpful in planning our trip. They arranged a wonderful trip on a sailboat (the Phantom) that was one of the highlights of our travels!

“Best B&B in Russell”

A fantastic B&B conveniently located just a short walk from the township, beach and bays. The room we had was so comfortable with a quality bed, lovely period furnishings and quality bed linen. We had our own private deck which overlooked a pretty little boat harbour. The hosts David and Brad were so helpful and attentive when required but unlike some B&B owners respected our space and left us in peace to enjoy our stay. The lodge itself is a special place and is so well restored and furnished. The views from the front deck are superb! But best of all the breakfasts are refreshingly different. If you want the standard fare of bacon, eggs, toast and tea then this is not the place for you but if you enjoy cafe style breakfasts made from locally produce then Adcida is the place.

All in all a fantastic weekend in a top spot with top hosts. We'll be back without doubt.....

“Fantistic B&B in the heart of Russell”

Arcadia Lodge

Great B&B built in 1899 and very nicely renovated with authentic period touches and a wonderful garden. Arcadia is located not only a close stroll to the fantastic village of Russell, but overlooking a very picturesque bay and boat harbour. The rooms are thoughtfully decorated with some very nice antiques. Some suites have private decks with views to die for. The common area is very relaxing and a great place to hang around, read a book or grab a spot of tea after a good day of sight seeing. Breakfast is fantastic, the beds are comfy and the relaxed atmosphere is a refreshing change from the old stuffy image that some B&B’s have. On top of all this, the owners, Brad and David, are wonderful hosts and very helpful with suggestions on making the most of your stay in the Bay of Islands. Highly recommended and I will definitely be back.
