“Great small hotel in superb location”

Shakespeare Hotel

This is an excellent hotel in a great location. The rooms are comfortable and quaintly decorated and are all named after famous writers. The staff are very friendly and helpful without being sugary. It is a small hotel so don't expect big chain facilities but the location, staff etc more than compensate for this.

Try and avoid rooms at street level as they are quite noisy during the day and don't offer much privacy. Also, the hotel restaurant and bar are both popular for private parties, probably because the food and surroundings are so good. However, when I was there this meant that they were both closed for two evenings for such parties (one of which was for the Prime MInister of Lithuania!). This meant that dinner was only available on room service.

Breakfast which was included in my room rate was excellent and very quickly served which was great since I was running late.

In summary, I highly recommend this hotel

“A real gem”

What a find. This small, boutique hotel was all we could ask for and more. Tucked away behind the main tourist area of the city and very close to St Ann's church the hotel is quiet, refined and comfortable. From our welcome through to departure (sadly after 3 nights) we were looked after with some style. Our room, with two additional beds for the children, was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast at the Shakespeare is an experience in itself! No buffet here. A proper menu and everything made to order - a really relaxing way to start the day. We also used the dining room on our last evening and we could not find fault with anything. We were lucky to be looked after by Arturas - nothing was too much trouble for him and he was very good in ensuring our children were cared for as well. Do try the chef's lunchtime special - this is a preset menu at a bargain price with half price beer! On our last day we sat on the roof terrace and took a leisurely two hours to sample his seafood paella - the main topic of conversation was that it was a shame we only stayed three days and when could we come back.

The hotel is reasonably priced, especially considering the level of service and comfort. It is close to the main tourist attractions but is so peaceful and quiet. Vilnius is a gem and so is the Shakespeare. Try it if you can but don't tell everyone!

“Warm and cosy”

I loved this hotel. All staff spoke near perfect English, and were tolerant of my poor Lithuanian. The rooms are very well appointed, and the theme of English literature flows through the hotel. Having books in the room to read was also a bonus, as I found one I have been wanting to read, but haven't been able to find. The Bathroom was large, and in the cold winter, the heated floor was brilliant, (and useful for drying clothes since there was no way to hang them in the bathroom!).
The staff were very helpful and friendly, although the cleaning staff were rather quick at entering rooms, as in knock-knock, I'm in!
Loved everything else about the hotel.

We had our wedding at the hotel. The service was excellent, the food fantastic, rooms clean and cosy. Breakfast is astonishing! It's a bit pricy, but we are definitely going there for our wedding anniversary!
