“Very close to GW University and Foggy Bottom Metro”

We stayed here for 2 nights for a visit to George Washington University. We were on the highest floor and the rooftop outdoor pool was above us and it leaked so the carpet in the hall was soaked. They did clean up the water, but the next day the carpet had a musty smell.

The room was clean and spacious, but the shower didn't have a lot of pressure and the beds were on the soft side. In general, the staff at the front desk was not overly friendly or helpful. I'm a Hilton Honors Gold VIP member and it is not unusual for a hotel to provide complimentary amenities (like room upgrade and bottled water and breakfast and free internet) that are above the required complimentary amenities, however, this hotel only provided the basic upgrade of either a free breakfast (Continental delivered to the room) or free internet.

The kitchen cupboards and the furniture was a bit worn. The kitchen included a hodge podge of dishes and flatware.

The best part was the location. It was no more than a 3-minute walk from the Foggy Bottom Metro (go up escalator, do a 180, and walk thru the plaza, cross 24th street, go to the far side of the block and take a left and the hotel is at the end of the block). It is also a short walk to the Kennedy Center and Watergate. It was a great location for visiting George Washington University. The area is quite safe as the GW police patrol the area.

“Doubletree Guest Suites Washington, DC FOSE Convention”

This is a nice hotel that's but suffers from some shortcomings. Its location (1515 Rhode Island NW) is terribly located in terms of nearby restaurants.

The nearest Metro stop is over a 1/2 miles so walking to/from the Metro after dark might be dangerous. Because I arrived late, I was given a room for handicapped that lacked any place to sit other than on the bed or the desk chair.

I had problems with the housekeeper not leaving regular coffee for me despite complaining to the front desk. I finally wrote a note to the housekeeper requesting that she leave regular coffee for me and my request was met.

My room was generally clean except for a strand of hair from the previous guest.

“Good hotel in DC”

Doubletree Guest Suites Washington, DC

4 of 5 stars
Hershey, PA

We have stayed in the Doubletree on several family trips to Washington DC. The price is reasonable - about $130 a night for Easter weekend. Close to the metro, easy walk to Georgetown - and if you have kids - very convenient kitchen facilities with a full refrigerator and dishwasher. We usually ate breakfast and lunch in our room - after visiting Trader Joe's about 3 blocks away. The kitchen saved our family a lot of money.

This hotel is not meant to be a romantic getaway nor do they have an inhouse bar or restaurant - but Trader Joe's sells wine and beer - perfect for parents after a log day of walking, visiting museums, walking to the national historical sites and more walking!

“Not bad if you can get a cheap rate”

Doubletree Guest Suites Washington, DC

3 of 5 stars
Boston, MA
Mar 19, 2008

I stayed at this hotel on a Priceline reservation for half of the cheapest Hilton pre-paid rate. At that price point the hotel was great. The location is great with many restaurants within a few blocks, a 24 hour CVS, and a Caribou Coffee for breakfast and free wi-fi on the same block. Valet parking can be slow at peak evening hours and is absent in the early morning hours (5-6am). It's charged per night, currently $26/night + tax (total just under $30).

As a Priceline customer I was put on the 2nd floor although I did have a room reasonably far from the elevator. I would avoid the rooms close to the elevator as the ice machine is located adjoining and the metal ice buckets sound more like drums when you fill them.

The standard rooms are adequate for two adults although the bathroom is fairly small and two people will have issues getting ready at the same time. Water pressure was fine but the tub is rather narrow, which is somewhat offset by the bowed out shower curtain.

An in-room safe, iron, hair dryer, and mini-bar refrigerator (not stocked for me) were available. The decor does show some age from the shower head labelled with a 2005 model year, the slightly less responsive remote control buttons and the slightly loose toilet handle.

The hotel is great but I would highly advise bringing foam earplugs if you plan to sleep past 9am on the weekend as the walls are paper-thin and the room door has a half inch gap at the bottom. As a result you will hear, in no particular order, all plumbing activities from adjoining and above rooms including sinks, showers, and toilets, any adjoining room TVs, normal conversational level corridor conversation, housekeeping rapping on any room door in the vicinity although they will respect your Do Not Disturb sign, the hallway carpet being vacuumed, chilren running and screaming as it also appears to be the family floor, the two-walk radios from hotel staff although that's drowned out by the housekeeper yelling to someone else down the hall. The distant sound of churchbells was mild in comparison to the local noise. However, if you plan to rise early none of this will be an issue and during my stay the nights were very quiet.

The front desk staff was very responsive to requests for extra towels although it suffered from the usual lack of staffing for a noontime check-out with a lengthy queue.

Overall, if you have the ability to get room upgrades or can get a cheaper than regularly advertised rate, this hotel is a great base from which to explore DC.

“nice and quite”

It was a really nice visit. Though the hotel is out of the way in the foggy bottom district, it was close to the metro. Very few kid friendly restaraunts in the area, but we managed. Theres a Trader Joes within walking distance if you want groceries. The staff was curtious but not overly friendly. No indoor pool here for the kiddies, but there was so much to do in DC we didn't miss it. The room was large and well maintained. DC in december has fewer tourist and our temperatures were in the 50's. I'd recommend this hotel for families who don't mind using the metro and don't need hotel ammenities like pools and continental breakfast in the lobby in the morning. A free newspaper at our door was enough to make this a great trip for us.
