“Perfect for Families”

Embassy Suites Washington-Convention Center

My wife and I stayed at the Embassy Suites Convention Center April 3-7. If you can tolerate poorly-behaved children and can put up with not smoking, this place is ideal.

1) The staff was universally well-presented, professional, and cordial. Leanne should be on magazine covers.

2) The place is kept spotlessly clean.

3) The rooms are very quiet once you get past the thundering hoards of kids echoing from the lobby through the atrium.

4) The place was a bargain with an internet rate of $170.

5) The location is terrific.

6) We hit a few speed bumps (smoking room not available, one morning breakfast line at least 100 people long) but the staff and Mr. Del Russo handled things graciously.

It's easy to see why this property is the success it is.

One tip: As you enter the restaurant for breakfast, the long line on the left will be for cooked-to-order omelettes. Go past that line and beyond the grill area to the left where there is a complete breakfast buffet. So give up the omelette and have scrambled eggs, save time, and not have to stand in line with those-who-have-fallen-off-the-turnip-truck and their offspring.

“Great stay at Embassy”

Just returned from 3 nights at Embassy Suites Convention Center with my two teenage daughters and myself. It was our first visit to DC.

We checked in early and were given a room on the 15th floor right near the elevator. We had a view only of the building next to us. We never encountered a problem with noise. We had a king suite and my younger daughter slept on the pull-out sofa. It was so nice to be able to spread out in two rooms.

We used the mini-fridge daily to keep our water bottles and fruit cold.

The breakfast was great. It included made-to-order omelets and eggs(had to wait in a bit of a line), ready-made scrambled eggs(the girls did not like them), sausage, bacon, potatoes, pancakes, bagels, muffins, toast, yogurt, cereal, fresh cut and whole fruit, variety of juices, coffee, and tea.
Complimentary cocktails and snacks(chips, cheese and crackers) were served from 5:30-7:30PM. It was crowded but not more than I expected.

The hotel was in a good location(1-2 blocks to Metro Center) and within walking distance of many attractions and restaurants. Concierge was always polite and helpful.

My only weak complaint was that the pool was very small and so cloudy that the girls would not use it. I did not either.
We checked out the work-out room which I planned on using, and it looked like there was plenty of equipment. Never actually used it because I was so exhaused from walking all day!

Overall, I would definetly recommend this hotel, especially for families.

We stayed here for 6 nights during the Cherry Blossom Festival and our kids (ages 11 and 15) spring break. We loved this hotel, and my quibbles are few and very minor.

The staff was great and friendly. Having a suite with 2 rooms and 2 tv's was great--and it was cleaned perfectly every day. I guess my biggest complaints about the room were the double beds (why oh why do hotels insist on using doubles instead of queens?) and the pillows. I solved that problem by going to Bed Bath and Beyond and buying an inexpensive feather pillow.

We requested a high floor away from the elevator in hopes of avoiding some of the noise others complained about, but that wasn't an issue at all. Most of the people staying there were families and business people---no rowdy teens or groups. And the construction right outside our window was a non-issue as well. Not a bit of noise from that.

The breakfast was fabulous. On the first morning we were there, we were a bit concerned---the lines were absolutely awful. But the bus boys stayed on top of keeping tables cleaned off, and the managers brought out trays of juice to those of us in line and apologized profusely for the wait. The rest of the week there were virtually no lines at all. After a long day of sightseeing, the Manager's Reception was a welcome way to wind down over some wine or cocktails before dinner.

The location was awesome. We used the Circulator, the Metro (about 2 blocks away), and walked a lot. Many good restaurants nearby (including Matchbox and Capital City Brewing Co., our personal favorites).

The hotel does have a laundry facility, but there were only 2 washers and 2 dryers that were almost always in use, especially at night---it didn't really seem to be enough for the number of rooms.

The concierge desk was manned with nice people very knowledgeable and helpful about the area. We used them several times, and they gave excellent advice.

Room service---did that the first night as we were exhausted. It wasn't bad, but not great either. It was delivered within 30-45 minutes.

In the lobby area, there were 6 computers available for guests to use to check email, internet, etc. This was so helpful for checking on restaurants or tours, and there were printers so you could print your info out.

I would definitely highly recommend this hotel, and would absolutely stay here again on our next trip to D.C.

“A great stay!!”

My two teenage boys and myself stayed here over Easter weekend. The room was large and very nicely decorated. The morning buffet was GREAT! ( the hotel was full but the buffet moved along nicely.) The nightly managers reception was wonderful after a day of walking the mall. The boys enjoyed soft drinks and chips while I had a glass of wine. The pool is small but nice with a fantastic view of the city. After all that walking around the museums and such I enjoyed the hot tub. The location of the hotel was great for us, we felt safe walking to and from the circular bus stop and metro stops.( I had never used public transportation and was leerie, but I felt very safe on DC's Metro lines.) Overall Embassy Suites Conv. Center was wonderful for us. The only complaint I had was the Concierge (an older gentleman) was rude to me when I questioned him about where to buy Circular bus day trip tickets. Besides not knowing where or how to get the tickets he actually said to me "Why would you want too". I understand he wants to sell trolley tours and such, but his job is to help guest. However I filled out a guest card saying as much the day we left and the lady concierge apologized and made me feel better about the situation. Other than that one employee all other staff went above and beyond helpful.

“Great Place to stay”

Embassy Suites Washington-Convention Center

Mar 30, 2008

I stayed with my two teenage children for a weekend. Location was great, rooms were great along with the food. I would stay here again on my next trip to DC. The pool is a little small but we didn't go to DC to swim. House cleaning was disappointing. They didn't empty the trash cans our entire stay or give us clean towels. I had to call for towels every evening. Other then that great place.
